The Opportunity This role supports the operation, maintenance, testing, and inspection of natural gas compression facilities within an assigned operating area. The successful candidate will demonstrate strong communication, coordination, analytical, troubleshooting, and decision-making capabilities, along initiative and accountability. You'll work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining comprehensive knowledge of facility assets and strict adherence to TC Energy's safety practices, operating procedures, work management processes, and compliance requirements.
This position is represented by United Steelworkers Local 628 and is subject to the terms and conditions of the governing collective bargaining agreement.
What You’ll Do This position performs the following core functions:
Operate compressor units and associated equipment, including start-up and shutdown procedures, while maintaining operating limits and executing pressure and flow change instructions
Coordinate facility operations with Gas Control and report pressure information as required
Monitor and adjust site equipment to ensure proper function; report malfunctions to support personnel
Monitor and maintain equipment fluid levels
Create, review, and edit Gas Handling and Energy Isolation (LOTO) plans
Execute or lead gas handling activities-including blow downs, purging, and pressurizing-and equipment isolation procedures
Read and interpret operational maps and instrument, chart, and gauge readings; replace charts as needed
Monitor automatic controls on operating equipment for proper functionality
Blow vessels and drips as required; monitor gas dew points
Maintain facility housekeeping and promptly report spills for proper cleanup and disposal
Manage and support contractors and vendors on-site in accordance with Control of Work policy
Train new employees and maintain local inventory of parts and supplies
Coordinate spare parts availability with maintenance and Inventory Management
Perform environmental sampling for permits and manage site waste inventory with proper storage, labeling, and disposal coordination
Maintain regulatory filing systems and prepare shipping manifests for hazardous material waste disposal
Support USRC and outside inspection agencies during integrated and field inspections
Document all work in the electronic Work Management system and complete follow-up documentation using incident and event reporting tools such as Enablon
Participate in work planning, safety meetings, and team meetings
Perform and document atmospheric corrosion inspections; inspect and maintain all safety-related equipment
Inspect overhead crane equipment and coordinate repairs
Assist with general station maintenance, minor equipment repairs, building maintenance, and grounds upkeep
Balance power cylinders on reciprocating engines and perform valve maintenance at recommended intervals
Assist with prime mover and compressor overhauls and support Pre-Safety Startup (PSSR), Management of Change (MOC), and Facility Maintenance Plan (FMP) reviews
Participate in major and minor facility inspections and review and update station operating maps and manuals
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent credential
Demonstrated mechanical knowledge, skills, and practical experience
Working knowledge of natural gas compression facility operations and associated equipment
Ability to obtain required Operator Qualifications for this position
Proficient use of various computer applications and systems: Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams), Adobe software, company intranet, SharePoint, Work Management System (e.g., SAP Work Manager/Blueworx), Windows and Apple OS navigation, and file upload and download functions
Valid driver's license and necessary DOT certification if required for the role
Additional Information
Maintain a valid driver's license and safe driving record
Successfully qualify for specific job tasks per DOT and Company operator qualification requirements
Successfully complete pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
Be subject to 24/7 call-out availability and work extended shifts or weeks for emergency response
Work in extreme weather conditions
Develop skills to support the Maintenance Mechanic role as needed
Pass respiratory fit testing and use equipment such as SCBA and other respirators
Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training, including overnight stays
