Responsibilities Position Summary: Serves as a practitioner, educator, consultant, and evidence-based practice leader. Responsible for needs assessment, design and development, delivery and evaluation of in-service programs, orientation and continuing education for respiratory therapist, nurses, students, and other staff in specified clinical areas. Develops educational policies and procedures; serves as a resource person to staff and management; participates in quality and performance improvement activities; and serves on special committees as needed. Functions with the guidance of the leadership team as an integrated member of CMHC.

Essential Duties

Supports and facilitates the orientation and onboarding of new hires.

Develop, implement, and revise programs that enhance cost effectiveness and quality patient care.

Participate in identifying the learning needs of Respiratory staff.

Communicate effectively with staff and leadership team regarding educational needs and offerings.

Assess, plan, and implement programs for staff development to advance and maintain knowledge, critical thinking, and skills competency.

Develop relationships with local colleges and universities.

Plans and coordinates conferences and seminars.

Designs and develops new patient equipment instructional materials; demonstrates use to staff.

Conducts classes and/or provides individual instructions/recommendations for identified learning deficiencies.

Supervises preceptor program house-wide as needed: resource for preceptors and students on the units.

Makes recommendations and implements updates and changes to current clinical competencies and educational programs based on best practice and research recommendation.

Evaluates and maintains initial and ongoing competency validations in compliance with JCAHO and CMS standards.

Orients new staff members; evaluates skill competencies during the 90-day probationary period.

Evaluates and documents staff performance of clinical skills.

Performs administrative duties as needed: management reports; Learning Management System for competency records.

Serves as a Respiratory planner to provide contact hours for appropriate CE and CME educational opportunities.

Provides expert clinical bedside consultation to staff.

Treats patients and families with respect and dignity; ensures patient confidentiality.

Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors.

Follows the five rights of medication administration and reduces the risk for potential medication errors.

Demonstrates the ability to be flexible and organized.

Studies current trends, new technologies/development, teaching methodologies through professional journals, seminars/conferences, professional associations, etc.

Customer Service: Interacts with all individuals in a consistent manner, providing attention, support, and assistance to foster an environment of exceptional personal service.

Qualifications

Current State of Maine Respiratory Therapy license

RRT credential required

Graduate of a two-year AMA approved respiratory care program

Healthcare Bachelor of Science Degree preferred

Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Registered Respiratory therapist

2 years clinical educator experience preferred

Current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider BLS and NRP Certification required; ACLS and PALS preferred.
