PHYSICAL SCIENCE TECHNICIAN with Security Clearance Responsibilities

You will be adapting and modifying the established precedents, methods and procedures to solve a variety of quality determination problems.

You will calibrate and check the calibration of applicable lab equipment and perform limited repair to test instruments.

You will maintain all administrative test records associated with sample testing and analysis, QA and QC functions, requirements, purchasing, and orders as needed.

You will evaluate test results against requirements and specifications and subsequently write and communicate the data to all concerned parties.

Generally, current federal employees applying for GS jobs must serve at least one year at the next lower grade level. This requirement is called time-in-grade. Time-in-grade requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.

Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

This is a bargaining unit position.

You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.

You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver's license.

This is a Mission Essential position. You will be required to ensure organization or facility continuity of operations and/or completion of tasks that are considered essential to the mission designated by a local or command decision.

This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.

This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

Qualifications Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:

Overseeing sample retain management with regard to log-in, storage, and ultimate disposal;

Preparing laboratory findings and briefings to operations personnel and fuels leadership presenting the results of the investigations, methods, and techniques used, date obtained and recommendations and conclusions;

Ensuring the laboratory calibration program is maintained;

Performing and standardizing reagent solutions and sets up equipment as needed.

Education: Applicants must meet the basic requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual. Applicants may substitute the following education for experience at this grade level: Successful completion of two full years of graduate education or a master's degree. One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part‑time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full‑time study at the school attended. NOTE: If you are claiming substitution of education for experience, you must submit a copy of your transcripts at the time of application. Failure to upload the transcripts will result in an ineligible rating.

Combination of Education and Experience: Equivalent combinations of graduate‑level education and experience may be used to meet the total qualification requirements. If you are using education to meet all or part of the qualification requirements, you must submit a copy of your transcripts or an itemized list of college courses which includes equivalent information from the transcript (course title, semester/quarter hours, and grade/degree earned).

Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the qualification requirements if the applicant can provide documentation indicating that the foreign education is comparable to that received in an accredited educational institution in the United States.
