Panama City, City of (FL)
Under the general guidance and leadership of the Director of Logistics. This is a skilled position working with an electrician in the construction, maintenance and repair of electric power, lighting, HVAC and communication systems of City facilities and equipment. Working knowledge and experience in activities of electrical and telecommunications in the construction, maintenance, and repair of electric power, lighting, and communication systems of City facilities and equipment.
This position is designated as an emergency essential position that requires performance of emergency duties and actions to prepare, repair and recover the City before, during and after any adverse storm events (hurricane, tornado, tropical storm, winter storm, severe thunderstorm, flash flooding etc.) or other conditions (natural or manmade).
ESSENTIAL DUTIES To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Assist electricians in wiring and installation of electrical equipment and fixtures, such as motors, generators, switches, circuit breakers, controllers, light fixtures and breaker boxes, in compliance with blueprints, schematic drawings and sketches.
Perform basic carpentry tasks such as cutting drywall, plywood, or other materials to install or modify spaces for new outlets, switches, fixtures or conduit access.
Install wiring and fixtures conforming to the specifications of local electrical codes.
Follow verbal, written and digital instructions.
Use test equipment regularly, such as a voltmeter and ohmmeter.
Use hand tools of the electrical trade, plus power tools, ditch witch, bucket truck and chainsaws.
Work under adverse conditions (heat, cold, inclement weather) and be able to perform manual labor (digging, heavy lifting, etc.).
Work at heights well above ground level from/out of various types of equipment.
Plans wiring and installation of equipment.
Perform other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
General knowledge of the methods, practices and techniques used in the work assigned.
General knowledge of the materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of building electrical systems.
Basic knowledge of carpentry methods for modifying or accessing wall structures during electrical installations.
Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the workplace.
Ability to work at heights well above ground level from/out of various types of equipment.
Ability to work under adverse conditions (heat, cold, inclement weather) and be able to perform manual labor (digging, heavy lifting, etc.).
Develop and maintain effective working relationships with City team members, elected officials, various agencies and the general public.
General knowledge and experience in the activities of electrical and telecommunications.
Skill in measuring, cutting, and preparing wall openings with precision to minimize repair needs after electrical work is completed.
QUALIFICATIONS
Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma.
Florida Class B CDL License, with air brake endorsement, (or ability to obtain within twelve months (12) months of employment).
A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications.
