Medical Laboratory Scientist (Clinical Laboratory Scientist) V

independently performs a variety of diagnostic laboratory tests in the Clinical Laboratory to obtain data for diagnosing and treating disease. They use their knowledge and skill set to oversee laboratory functions, including quality control, maintenance, training and other required tasks. This is a full-time, 40-hour-per-week, benefitted day-shift position with rotating weekends and evening shifts on occasion. This position will rotate between our clinics in Concord, Manchester, and Nashua. Responsibilities

Demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform a variety of laboratory tests in a timely manner, yielding accurate and precise results with a low error rate. Assists the Medical director and the Lab manager/supervisor in test selection and implementation. Ability to appropriately troubleshoot and take remedial actions to resolve issues and problems independently. Ensures that patient results are not reported until systems are functioning correctly. Clearly communicates resolutions or next steps to section/lab leadership and the team. Possesses advanced knowledge, skills, and theory to perform job duties in the clinical laboratory. Establishes or verifies test performance specifications. Can assist others in learning techniques and theory. Develops training and teaching programs for the area(s) of oversight. Has primary oversight and evaluation responsibility for quality control and instrument function checks using established quality control practices to assess the functioning of the test system(s). Identifies when a QC problem exists and troubleshoots and resolves issues in a timely manner. Can establish a quality control program, execute this plan within regulatory requirements, and monitor test performance. Can clearly communicate the steps taken to correct issues and help others understand the process. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment according to established laboratory procedures and/or manufacturers' recommendations, including maintaining supplies. Identifies when sample, instrument, and/or procedural problems exist and takes appropriate actions to remedy the issue, prevent reoccurrence, and investigate replacement solutions or methods when necessary. Is able to troubleshoot problems and communicate resolutions or next steps appropriately. Orients and trains new laboratory staff. Trains bench personnel when new procedures or systems are put into routine use. Trains MLS or MLT/CLT students in bench procedures, basic theory, and advanced skills. Develops teaching and training tools and identifies training needs for new students and employees, as well as existing team members. Develops competency tools and assesses competency of the lab staff for waived, moderate, and high complexity testing. Actively participates in the D-HH member’s laboratory's continuing education program. Assist in outpatient/in-patient phlebotomies, specimen processing, non-patient registration, and requisition checks, as needed. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to determine the phlebotomy technique appropriate for the age and condition of the patient. Has oversight of the phlebotomy team, sample collection, and processing in the absence of the supervisor or manager. Demonstrates knowledge of and acts in accordance with all hospital safety requirements Performs other duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

Bachelor's of Science Degree or the equivalent in education & Clinical Laboratory experience. 3-5 years of clinical lab experience required Ability to work independently and adhere to deadlines and manage changing volumes. Basic knowledge of computer software systems. Required Licensure/Certifications - Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) or Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT-AMT) or Technologist/Specialist in Chemistry (C-ASCP) or International Technologist in Microbiology (M-ASCP) or Technologist/Specialist in Chemistry (C-ASCP) or Specialist in Hematology (SH-ASCP) or International Specialist in Microbiology (SM-ASCP) within 365 days - BLS certification required within 30 days of hire Area of Interest:
