Position: Firepower Hardware Engineer Location: Sterling Heights, MI Pay Rate: $64.86/hour Work Arrangement: On-Site About the Role CPI is seeking a Firepower Hardware Engineer to support the design, development, integration, and release of mechanical systems and subsystem assemblies for advanced firepower and weapons systems. This role supports gun and turret drive systems, racerings, ammunition handling and feed systems, and their integration into both legacy and next-generation ground combat platforms. This position works within a highly specialized engineering group focused on weapon system hardware, mechanisms, and platform integration. What You'll Do
- Design, develop, integrate, and release systems, subsystems, and mechanical components for firepower and weapons platforms
- Support design of articulating, locking, and sliding mechanisms aligned with Human Factors requirements
- Provide technical guidance to Design Services to create:
- 3D models
- Installation drawings
- Detailed manufacturing drawings
- Support procurement and on-site prototype build and integration, resolving technical issues as they arise
- Read and interpret technical drawings and perform tolerance stack analysis
- Perform preliminary design and analysis derived from system requirements
- Conduct failure analysis and provide technical direction for corrective actions
- Write technical reports and modification instructions
- Work within an Integrated Product Team (IPT) environment and communicate across functional organizations
- 7+ years of professional engineering experience
- Previous experience with ground combat vehicles preferred
- Strong CAD modeling capability (CREO preferred)
- Experience supporting design through release and production
- Proficient with Microsoft Office tools
- Working knowledge of GD&T
- Experience performing tolerance stack-ups
- Familiarity with FEA tools (ANSA with Nastran and/or LS-DYNA solvers)
- Experience with Teamcenter or similar PLM tools
- Self-starter with strong ownership mentality
- Comfortable working in office, shop, plant, test lab, and test site environments
- Strong communication skills in cross-functional engineering settings
- Willingness to work occasional evenings, weekends, and overtime
- Ability to travel to other facilities and military installations as required
- This position may require eligibility to obtain a U.S. security clearance
- Non-U.S. citizens may not be eligible to obtain a security clearance
- Candidate may be required to hold or obtain a clearance
