Position Overview The Cybersecurity Engineer is responsible for delivering advanced cybersecurity engineering support across industrial control systems (ICS), enterprise networks, and mission-critical environments. This role provides expert-level analysis, control design, verification, and technical oversight to ensure systems remain secure, compliant, and resilient. The engineer will lead vulnerability assessments, hardening activities, patch management, and incident response initiatives while aligning all work with DoD, Navy, and RMF cybersecurity standards. This position may support both remote and onsite work, with periodic CONUS/OCONUS travel as needed. Responsibilities
- Lead cybersecurity engineering efforts for ICS and enterprise systems, ensuring alignment with DoD and Navy security requirements.
- Conduct and document vulnerability assessments, security control testing, and STIG/SRG compliance verification.
- Configure, analyze, and optimize security controls including IDS/IPS, firewalls, and access control lists (ACLs).
- Perform operating system hardening and configuration across environments such as Windows, Linux, VxWorks, and embedded platforms.
- Support incident response activities, including triage, forensic analysis, root-cause investigation, and remediation planning.
- Oversee patching cycles, system updates, and control enhancements to maintain a robust cybersecurity posture.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design secure architectures, validate security requirements, and support A&A/RMF activities.
- Prepare technical documentation, risk reports, engineering assessments, and recommendations for leadership and stakeholders.
- Ensure full adherence to Navy cybersecurity policies, OPSEC requirements, CUI protocols, quality standards, and required security trainings.
- Master's degree in Cybersecurity, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Mathematics with a computer science concentration, or a cybersecurity-related field from an ABET-accredited program.
- Relevant certifications such as OSCP or CEH.
- Minimum Five (5) years of professional experience in cybersecurity engineering supporting ICS infrastructure, networks, and/or network security; OR
- Minimum Ten (10) years of professional experience in cybersecurity engineering (in lieu of ICS-specific experience).
- One (1) year of hands-on experience applying, configuring, or analyzing cybersecurity controls (IDS/IPS, firewalls, ACLs).
- Experience maintaining or configuring operating systems such as Windows, Linux, VxWorks, or other embedded operating systems.
- Demonstrated expertise in ICS network security, including industrial device communication protocols and network segmentation principles.
- Strong understanding of Risk Management Framework (RMF) processes, STIG/SRG implementation, and ongoing cybersecurity compliance tracking.
- Proficiency in security controls engineering, including operating system (OS) hardening, vulnerability analysis, and remediation planning.
- Knowledge of incident response methodologies, digital forensics fundamentals, and root-cause investigation techniques.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and within remote, cross-functional technical teams, adapting to dynamic operational environments.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical documentation, reports, and stakeholder-facing deliverables.
- Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality work.
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite software including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.
