Job Description
This position is responsible for the installation, maintenance and repair of the city's information technology infrastructure. This includes performing necessary maintenance and monitoring to provide continuous network availability, security, server performance, and availability of all IT and GIS services and infrastructure. A Systems Administrator also aids the city’s GIS/Systems Analyst Division in technical issues.
Examples of Duties
Installs, configures, monitors, maintains and upgrades IT infrastructure, including but not limited to servers, network switches, server applications and email.
Analyzes network problems and defines solutions.
Manage, support, and ensure operating viability of local and wide area networks both wired and wireless for all hours of operation.
Uses ticket management software to respond to emails and telephone calls with requests for assistance on various technical issues; identifies and resolves problems and issues in a timely manner.
Setup and support computer workstations and peripherals.
Manage assigned IT projects, as needed.
Commute to various City buildings to assist with IT related matters.
Manage Active Directory privileges and access rights.
Provides information, testing, and recommendations for new technology to city staff.
Assists in the research, purchase, and implementation of new technology.
Installs and configures new hardware and software.
Provides after-hours technical support.
Installs wiring and cabling in support of network infrastructure.
Maintains the city data center, which includes servers, switches, and virtual environment.
Performs related duties.
Minimum Qualifications
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills typically associated with a high school education.
Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the major duties of the position, usually associated with the completion of an apprenticeship/internship or having had a similar position for one to two years.
Supplemental Information
