Overview Join the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to conduct medicolegal death investigations, including field and laboratory work.

Responsibilities

Complete the in‑house Death Investigation training academy.

Conduct field investigations of deaths under statutory duties, working solo or partnered.

Perform autopsy laboratory duties: data entry, photography, specimen collection, evidence gathering.

Communicate findings to law enforcement, physicians, families, funeral directors, and other stakeholders.

Represent the agency publicly, adhering to policies and acting as an ambassador.

Work flexible shifts under all environmental conditions, including long drives and sleep‑deprivation periods.

Qualifications

Experience in medical technology, emergency medical services, or prior medicolegal investigative office.

Degree in crime scene processing, law enforcement, or related field preferred; practical death‑investigation experience favored.

ABMDI certification preferred or required within two years of employment.

At least 21 years old.

Valid Oklahoma driver’s license and a social‑security number or work visa.

Special Requirements

Must reside in the Oklahoma City area.

Must pass a rigorous character and background investigation.

Must maintain physical and mental stamina for demanding work.

Must be willing to accept the inherent physical and mental discomforts of the role.
