About the Position
The Estimator – Heavy Civil / Water & Wastewater will play a critical role in the company’s success by preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for water, wastewater, and heavy civil infrastructure projects. This position requires a comprehensive understanding of treatment processes, underground utilities, grading, concrete, and mechanical systems.
Working collaboratively with project managers, engineers, and subcontractors, the Estimator will support all phases of preconstruction — from quantity takeoffs and bid preparation to constructability reviews and value engineering. Key Responsibilities:
Review and analyze project plans, specifications, and
addenda for heavy civil and W&WW treatment projects. Prepare detailed takeoffs for earthwork, piping,
concrete, and process mechanical systems. Develop comprehensive cost estimates, including labor,
equipment, materials, and subcontractor costs. Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor bids to
ensure accuracy and compliance with project requirements. Conduct site visits to assess project scope and field
conditions. Participate in constructability reviews and value
engineering sessions. Maintain and update cost databases, production rates,
and estimating templates. Support multiple delivery methods, including design-build,
CMAR, and hard-bid projects. Coordinate closely with project managers and engineers
to align estimates with construction methods. Assist in project handoffs, cost tracking, and post-bid
analysis to improve future estimating accuracy.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil
Engineering, or related field preferred. Minimum 5 years of estimating experience, with
at least 3 years in heavy civil, water/wastewater, or public works projects. Experience working with municipal, state, or federal
contract requirements. Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid or equivalent
estimating software. Advanced computer skills, including Microsoft Office
Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).Position is located in Reno, NV.
Strong understanding of construction means, methods,
and sequencing. Familiarity with water/wastewater treatment
processes, utilities, and concrete structures. Ability to interpret civil, mechanical, and structural
drawings. Effective written and verbal communication for
coordination with internal and external stakeholders.
