Hours: 7:00am – 3:00pm
Position Summary Supervises and coordinates the activities of assigned staff engaged in maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing Fleet vehicles and equipment. Acts as a working member of the crew. Performs work involving skilled duties in the automotive mechanical and electrical/electronic fields. Duties include proficient knowledge of preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment.
Essential Functions
Assists the Fleet Manager in developing and managing the overall Fleet vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair strategies including optimum utilization of personnel, equipment and resources
As a working supervisor, plans, coordinates, and directs the workload and effort of assigned staff
Supervises and performs activities in the inspection, maintenance and repair of Fleet vehicles and equipment
Inspects vehicles and equipment, corrects deficiencies, troubleshoots and repairs, and/or makes adjustments as necessary for proper operation of Fleet vehicles and equipment
Ensures all maintenance and repairs are accomplished in accordance with Computer Maintenance Management System (CMMS) requirements and maintains CMMS work records
Reviews vehicle/equipment technical manuals, computer-based programs and other resources to prepare and update maintenance procedures in CMMS to ensure Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) requirements are met
Assists the Fleet Manager in developing and maintaining a Tactical Asset Management Plan for vehicles and equipment in accordance with CWS Asset Management Program policies and procedures
Reviews insurance coverage for vehicles and equipment in order to obtain maximum reimbursements for losses and repairs.
Reviews and approves estimates from outside vendors for vehicle/equipment repairs, factory warranty repairs and recalls
Administer performance appraisals and new hire orientation period evaluations for all direct reports
Coordinates and conducts required training as needed including EMS, Skills Bases, Standard Operating Instructions (SOI), and safety
Interacts and communicates with various groups and individuals such as the immediate supervisor, other departments and department leaders, vendors, sales representatives, outside repair/service personnel, CWS Accident Review Board committee members, insurance company representatives, the public, etc.
May be required to work during hazardous weather and/or emergency conditions
Regular attendance is required
Job performance must conform to all CWS Policies and Procedures.

Ability to issue, receive and understand complex oral and written instructions
Ability to express and receive detailed information through oral communication and make fine distinction in sound, such as when making fine adjustments on machine partsAbility to communicate verbal instructions quickly, loudly, and effectively in emergency situations
Ability to observe and comprehend computer screens and software to generate reports, specifications, memos, and letters
Ability to observe repairs and field work in progress
Subject to noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level; hearing protection required
Occasionally positions self to move, traverse and lift up to 25 lbs. to perform required work. Objects greater than 50 lbs. require a two-person operation.
Ability to reach, pull, handle documents, tools and equipment as required to perform routine tasks
Ability to work independently of others
Using upper extremities to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward, or outward
Ability to operate and maintain motor vehicles
Subject to vibrations; exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities of whole body
Must be able to wear Personnel Protective Equipment (PPE) as defined in the Job Safety Analysis (JSA) to perform the required essential functions
Education and/or Experience
Associates Degree and at least three (3) years of progressive experience in the maintenance and repair of vehicles and equipment with increasing levels of responsibility; or a combination of education and experience totaling six (6) years with increasing levels of responsibility
Extensive knowledge of principles, methods, standards, tools, and test equipment used in carrying out maintenance efforts, with the ability to evaluate costs and procedures, and make recommendations on effective solutions
Experience using a computerized work order system; preferably a recognized CMMS
Ability to operate a personal computer and efficiently use Microsoft Office software programs to include Word and Excel
Must possess good planning and organizational skills
Prior work record indicating dependability and conscientiousness
Must demonstrate leadership and management competencies that drive a strong safety culture
Licenses, Certifications, Registrations
Valid South Carolina Driver's License required.
Section 609 Certification for automotive refrigerant or ability to obtain within three (3) months from date of hire
Training Needs
OSHA and Departmental safety training as required.
Skills Based Training
ISO 14001 standards for department and company.
