Primary Purpose: Perform concurrent monitoring of patients on telemetry and event monitors to assist in the early identification of cardiac arrhythmias.
Education
Must have completed a Medical Assistant course that includes EKG or six months experience interpreting EKG rhythm strips.

Skills or Special Abilities
Demonstrate ability to interpret EKG rhythm strips during interview.
Demonstrate all telemetry related functions and complete the three-day EKG course or take the challenge test with a passing grade of at least 80% within the 90‑day probationary period.
Responsibilities
Monitor assigned telemetry patients and use judgment to notify hospital personnel when patients need special attention or care.
Maintain records of telemetry procedures to ensure proper documentation of events and report patients’ telemetry status to physicians, nursing staff, and other healthcare staff.
Provide event monitoring services, ensuring prompt, professional service. Monitor patient EKG strips, inform patients of proper transmission procedures and system referrals, and confer with physicians regarding Event Monitor results.
Maintain knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines impacting the Cardiographic area. Develop internal controls that promote adherence to applicable laws and program requirements of accreditation agencies and health plans.
Maintain supplies and complete purchase orders necessary for lab maintenance; maintain equipment to prevent interruptions.
Interpret complex EKG patterns and provide medical staff with diagnostic or contraindication information.
Identify ways to improve work processes and customer satisfaction; make recommendations to supervisor and implement monitoring of results.
Stay abreast of the latest developments, advancements, and trends in Telemetry/EKG through seminars, workshops, and professional journals, integrating knowledge into current work practices.
Deliver reports to nursing units and other Cardiovascular Services to ensure communication of information; deliver other items and paperwork as required.
