Job Description This position is responsible for leading the operational and human resources for the picture archiving and communication system (PACS). Additionally, the individual will act as a liaison in digital imaging initiatives within the department and other departments and be responsible for departmental QC activities. The individual is responsible for overseeing and coordinating existing and participation in new PACS and digital imaging initiatives.

Responsibilities

Operations & Maintenance

Maintains the RIS/PACS system in compliance with the guidelines of the Statewide system.

Works with RIS/PACS functional team in evaluating system changes or replacement of hardware.

Performs file and database maintenance. Performs software updates.

Tests and validates all software associated updates prior to installation into the "live" on production area.

Works with the IT Coordinator to maintain the RIS/PACS system.

End User Training and Support

Provides technical supervision of all system users. Serves as liaison between radiology, hospital departments, vendors, etc. to address system needs and troubleshoot problems.

Develops and maintains policies and procedures for interdepartmental and intradepartmental functions.

Develops orientation programs and verifies competency of system users. Provides in‑services for system updates or to assist in problem resolution. Assists in the development of training material.

Works with medical staff to ensure the integrity of exam reports.

Ensures that the operational procedures are in compliance with HIPAA regulations.

Provides statistics reports as requested and in compliance with system wide policies.

Develops and manages the annual operating budget for the Campus's component of the system.

Assists in other areas of department as workload permits.

Monitoring and Troubleshooting of System

Monitors hardware and coordinates repair. Monitors the system at least daily for errors and monitors other interfaced computer systems in order to preempt system problems.

Provides on‑site technical assistance to resolve software problems. Serves as the on‑call person for afterhours troubleshooting.

Contacts vendors to coordinate repair or further technical assistance when needed.

Software and Report Development

Consults and serves as a liaison to the RIS/PACS Functional Team for the department director and hospital administration as to the feasibility, quality and benefits of new developments relating to the system.

Coordinates development and implementation of new policies and procedures when system changes or updates are implemented.

Manages and coordinates the installation of new hardware and software.

Coordinates system changes and update with the IT Coordinator for the Statewide RIS/PACS system.

Develop System Policies

Develops system policies to ensure that the integrity and privacy of all data is maintained. Develops reviews and updates system policies to ensure that the system is in compliance with regulatory agencies. Ensures that all policies are approved by the medical director and department director.

Ensures that hardware and operator work areas are configured to ensure safety. Periodically performs safety inspections of work areas.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Education Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Math, Physics, Engineering or other technical curriculum may substitute for the required qualifications; Associate degree in Radiology with experience.

Experience

Radiology certificate

Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)

Active licensure with the Mississippi State Radiologic Technologist Board of Examiners to practice as a Radiologic Technologist, plus three (3) years of Radiology Information System or Picture Archiving and Communications System experience, may substitute for the required qualifications.

Special Skills

Strong knowledge of Radiology workflow, quality control activities, and knowledge of PACS management.

Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Ability to work under pressure and on concurrent, multidisciplinary projects.

License / Cert

Registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (AART)

Active licensure with the Mississippi State Radiologic Technologist Board (LSRT) to practice as a Radiologic Technologist.
