Job Responsibilities

Conduct investigations regarding allegations of abuse, neglect, self-neglect and financial exploitation of vulnerable adults. Serve as a mentor to unit adult protective investigators, guiding new investigators through shadowing, orientation, and the probationary period. Keep the API supervisor, Operations Program Administrator, and APS region program office informed of potential issues including staffing, need for additional training, and higher-level coaching of unit staff. Refer vulnerable adults to appropriate service providers as determined by the investigation, which may be initiated at any point during the investigation. Attend scheduled in‑service and/or pre-service training as required. Participate in conferences, staffings and meetings as required. Serve as the Acting Supervisor when the supervisor is unavailable, reviewing new intakes, assigning investigations, completing safety assessments, 30‑day reviews and closures timely, and informing the APS region program office of potential issues. Qualifications

Experience in emergency, tactical or customer/public complaint interactions utilizing communication technology, including basic computer and typing skills. Knowledge of interviewing and observation techniques; knowledge of family dynamics and functioning. Skill in researching and utilizing internet sites to gather information. Ability to assess service needs and facilitate appropriate service delivery. Ability to write professional, accurate investigative reports. Ability to conduct fact‑finding interviews; understand and apply relevant laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures; collect and synthesize evidentiary materials; plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to actively listen, communicate effectively and establish and maintain effective working relationships with others. Ability to utilize computer systems and work in a paperless environment. Show high degree of tact, patience, and courtesy dealing with vulnerable adults; maintain calm, professional demeanor while handling emergency and non-emergency calls; exhibit independent judgment and initiative to complete field assignments.
