Project Cost Analyst Sr. – Appalachian Power Job Summary: This role will coordinate project cost analysis and controls for team activities, supporting Project Managers (PMs) and other staff. Responsibilities include inputting budgets within AEP corporate systems, providing forecast updates and variance analysis at the program and project levels, tracking key performance indicators, and collaborating with project teams to implement project management best practices throughout the project lifecycle.

What You'll Do:

Coordinate project meetings and support PMs in preparing and updating project documentation.

Assist with forecasting project spending, cash flows, budget variance monitoring, and cost tracking/analysis.

Provide analysis and verification for SOX activities and support input for annual budget, capital forecasts, five‑year plans, and improvement requisitions.

Perform estimate vs. actuals analysis and collaborate with PMs to establish baseline budgets.

Create project breakdown structures and manage departmental organizational functions as needed.

Assist in contracting processes, including bidding activities and cost analysis.

Communicate with project team, resources, and stakeholders on budgetary items and work order processes.

Develop and compile key performance indicators (KPIs) such as scope, budgeting, schedule performance, cost performance, and forecasting.

Advise on AEP project/work management standards and participate in Project Management Governance Committee activities.

Provide training and guidance to junior employees and recommend continuous improvement initiatives.

What We're Looking For:

Bachelor’s Degree plus 1‑year qualified experience.

Associate’s Degree plus 3‑years qualified experience.

High School Diploma or GED plus 4‑years experience as a Project Cost Analyst Associate.

Degree must be in a related field such as Accounting, Business, Construction Management, Engineering, Technology, or Project Management.

Experience:

Utility specific operations knowledge and good working knowledge of work processes and procedures.

Design, operations, planning, project management, cost tracking analysis, forecasting, and project budgets experience.

Experience with accounting principles, construction or maintenance of systems, and/or equipment.

License/ Certifications:

Professional or trade certification such as CCMP, CETa, IQCP, PMP, or RMP is not required at this level.

Certification is required to progress to the Principal level for those with a high school diploma/GED or non‑qualified higher education degree; otherwise, a certification is preferred.

Other Requirements:

Manage time effectively and demonstrate organizational and planning skills with an aptitude for accuracy.

Basic technical knowledge related to writing and verbal communication.

Proficient in Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint.

Team player with ability to collaborate well with others.

Travel, including overnight, may be required.

Perform light physical duties at various work sites including home and AEP locations.

Understand and support AEP policies, values, principles, structure, and behavior.

Preferred exposure to corporate accounting and project cost management systems, construction environments, earned value management, and scheduling systems.

Availability to work overtime may be required.

Demonstrate an attitude and desire to satisfy both internal and external customers who use and depend on our work.

Desired skills: excellent communication, analytical, engaged, proactive, willingness to learn, independent thinker.

Experience with Ecosys is desired.

Where You'll Work: On‑Site – Roanoke, VA

Compensation: $84,000 – $115,000 annually
