Probation and Parole Officer 1 – DHS – DCR – Parole Services – Wood Co.

State of West Virginia invites applications for the Probation and Parole Officer 1 position within the Division of Corrections and Rehabilitation (DCR) – Parole Services. The primary office is located in Parkersburg, and the officer will provide services across Wood, Wirt, Calhoun, Gilmer, Ritchie, Pleasants, Ohio, Wetzel, Tyler, Hancock, Brooke, and Marshall counties. Nature of Work Investigate, counsel, and provide continuous supervision for adult probationers or parolees to facilitate social and personal adjustment. Maintain close contact with potentially dangerous offenders with criminal backgrounds. Complete home‑plan investigations, investigative reports, clemency reports, co‑operative investigations for other states, post‑sentence reports for the Parole Board, and violation reports in the region. Perform additional related duties as required by the Department. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university. Preferred majors include Business Administration, Public Administration, Business Management, Management, Political Science, Industrial Relations/Management, Organizational Behavior/Management, Psychology, Sociology, Criminal Justice, Corrections, Social Work, or closely related fields. OR experience in counseling, law enforcement, corrections, probation and parole, social services, and/or rehabilitation services. Substitution rate: one (1) year of experience for every thirty (30) semester hours of required training. Condition of Employment: Firearms will be issued at the discretion of the Division and any authorized bearer must complete a psychological evaluation prior to issuance. Authorized candidates must meet annual training requirements set by the West Virginia Corrections Academy. Other Information Probationary period: 1 year.
