Inspector Apprentice

Responsibilities

Conduct quality inspections on units as they arrive at auction, working year‑round in all weather.

Verify key components and damages (frame, paint, engine, AC/heater operation, radio/navigation system, tires, etc.).

Prepare support documentation, including vehicle identification data, condition description, repair cost estimates, photographs, etc.

Maintain knowledge of applicable labor rates, parts charges, and manufacturer updates; adhere to inspection and documentation procedures.

Conduct courtesy walk‑around inspections.

Follow all applicable safety and health procedures.

May be required to locate, start, or move vehicles as directed.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED.

Generally less than 2 years’ experience in a related field.

Successful ICP Level I written/field exam.

Understanding of Baseline Inspections (Electronic Condition Report) and vehicle grading.

Valid driver’s license; safe driving record required.

Good communication and interpersonal skills.

Strong technical aptitude.

Body, paint, and mechanical repair knowledge.

Familiarity with unibody and full‑frame vehicles.

Strong organizational skills.

Ability to multitask, follow directions, and take instruction.

Ability to stand, walk, or sit for prolonged periods.

Ability to bend, stoop, squat, or kneel.

Ability to lift and hold at least 10 lbs at waist level for an extended period.

Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.

Vision abilities including close, distance, and color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Preferred

1–3 years of experience in the automobile field (inspections, body/mechanic shop, etc.).

Compensation Hourly base pay rate is $13.70 – $20.53 per hour; range may vary based on location and qualifications. Position may be eligible for additional compensation such as commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Benefits Employees receive at least 16 hours of paid time off per month and seven paid holidays per year. Additional paid time off is available for bereavement, voting, jury duty, volunteer time, military leave, and parental leave.

Employment Requirements Applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, with no OPT, CPT, STEM/OPT, or visa sponsorship now or in the future.
