Food Service Worker – Casual Weekends Only
Salary:
$16.50 – $20.63 per hour (placement within the range depends on experience, internal equity, and union rules if applicable).

Description The Food Services Worker reflects the mission, vision, and values of Northwestern Medicine, follows the organization’s Code of Ethics, and complies with all relevant policies and regulations.
Casual Position:
Hours per week are not guaranteed.
Schedule:
Every other weekend. Start times 6:30 AM – 7:15 AM, end times 7:30 PM – 8:30 PM. 12‑hour shifts.

Responsibilities
Prepare cold food items for patients and the cafeteria.
Take Room Service orders, including employee, patient, and family initiated orders and orders for patients needing assistance.
Complete tray assembly.
Ensure food meets all safety and sanitary regulations and complete all required documentation.
Data entry using Microsoft Excel.
Basic cash handling.
Maintain a safe, clean, neat, and orderly cooking area.
Adhere to all department policies and programs.
Use problem‑resolution skills to ensure satisfaction in quality and service.
Complete daily position checklists, cleaning duties, and all required documentation.
Complete mandatory in‑service trainings and meet employee health requirements.
Wash and sanitize all food service equipment used for patients and cafeteria service.
Replace items to their proper place of storage.
Demonstrate ability to exercise independent judgment when needed.
Assist with putting away stock using FIFO (first‑in, first‑out) method.
Cleans and sanitizes cafeteria service items.
Cleans dish machine at end of shift.
Cleans and sanitizes work area.
Cleans and sanitizes food service carts.
Qualifications Required:
Excellent customer service and critical‑thinking skills.
Ability to work in a stressful environment and take appropriate action.
Physical Demands: lift/carry up to 12 pounds; push/pull force up to 50 pounds.
Preferred:
One‑year customer‑service experience.
Familiar with diet restrictions.
