Job Profile Summary:

This role focuses on using various imaging techniques and practices to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of patients. It involves performing Diagnostic Radiology duties such as evaluating physical conditions related to diagnostics, operating medical imaging equipment, and providing patient care. This entry‑level role typically requires vocational or technical education, is closely supervised, and follows standard procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduate of an approved School of Radiological Technology.

Certification granted by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

Licensed by the Massachusetts Radiation Control Board.

Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Follows hospital protocol for exam routines and produces quality studies in an efficient, timely manner.

Is competent to operate all equipment in the department or has requested training in specific areas.

Completes the administrative portion of procedure; tech edit, escort patient, clean and prepare room.

Completes the procedure effectively, including processing film, providing appropriate feedback to patient, and cleaning room.

Places markers and labels films with appropriate stickers to correctly identify the radiographed anatomical area.

Reports repeat films through Meditech and ensures the rejection rate meets benchmark standards.

Is a team player, interacts well with staff, other departments, and physicians.

Ensures patient expectations of quality service are exceeded, verifies identity by asking name and checking arm‑band.

Educates each patient professionally, explaining what they should expect and the timeliness of the exam.

Takes initiative to meet customer needs and solve problems or finds assistance.

Communicates respectfully with all audiences and offers help when needed.

Assists with paperwork associated with the patient’s exam (clerical duties).

Complies with safety, infection control, and environmental control policies and procedures.

Submits documentation of reportable incidents per hospital incident reporting policies.

Is flexible and willing to adjust personal schedule to cover shifts or call.

Attends mandatory staff meetings and provides feedback on department functionality.

Provides lowest possible radiation exposure to staff, patients, and families according to ALARA guidelines.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to transport patients from wheelchair or slide board to table, move portable x‑ray machine, and lift 30‑35 pounds with assistance.

Requires manual dexterity for fine hand manipulation of radiology equipment.

Hearing and visual acuity sufficient to perform examinations, read monitors, documents, and hear equipment alarms.
