Job Purpose and Summary Within our Retail locations, our District Support Pharmacists (DSPs) play a critical role in cultivating a culture of excellence within each pharmacy by acting as a role model for all, demonstrating genuine care, and setting the bar for the pharmacy team. As a DSP, you will cover pharmacist scheduling gaps, support pharmacy teams, and manage the oversight and operation of the pharmacy across the district.
Responsibilities
Live our purpose by managing and improving patient health through safe and appropriate dispensing, counseling, and immunizing practices.
Travel the district to fill pharmacist shifts as scheduled by the District Performance Coordinator (DPC) and serve as the Pharmacy Manager’s proxy during bench shifts.
Support safe and accurate prescription fulfillment by enforcing pharmacy workflow procedures and utilizing safety guardrails at every workstation.
Assume the Pharmacy Manager’s day‑to‑day duties when serving as the only or primary pharmacist‑on‑duty.
Contribute to positive patient experiences by displaying empathy, coaching the pharmacy team, and collaboratively resolving insurance and medication issues.
Proactively offer and deliver immunizations, engaging Pharmacy Techn to learn immunization skills.
Manage pharmacy inventory following best practices, with emphasis on protecting cold‑chain products.
Remain flexible for scheduling and business needs while fostering a safe, inclusive, and engaging team dynamic.
Maintain clinical and technical skills, pursue ongoing learning opportunities, and stay current with industry developments.
Support access to care by delivering pharmacist‑led clinical services such as testing and prescribing where permissible.
Comply with all federal, state, and industry regulations, CVS Health policies, and controlled substance record‑keeping requirements to uphold patient safety and privacy.
Required Qualifications
Active Pharmacist License in the state where the Store is located.
Active National Provider Identifier (NPI).
Not on the DEA Excluded Parties list.
Essential Functions
Travel within a reasonable radius for staffing support as business needs require.
Maintain regular and predictable attendance, including nights and weekends.
Complete required training within designated timeframes.
Attention and Focus
Concentrate on tasks over time and pivot quickly to meet patient and business needs.
Ensure prescription information and label accuracy for patient safety.
Customer Service and Team Orientation
Actively look for ways to help people in a friendly manner.
Notice and respond appropriately to patient reactions.
Communication Skills
Use and understand verbal and written communication with patients and colleagues.
Practice active listening and ask questions without interrupting.
Mathematical Reasoning: Use math to determine supply quantities and dispense accurately.
Problem Resolution: Identify challenging interactions and determine the best course of action.
Physical Demands: Discussed physical tasks such as mobility, lifting, reaching, and repetitive hand use.
Perform additional tasks as directed by Supervisor or Manager.
Preferred Qualifications
1–2 years of related work experience in a pharmacy, retail, medical, or customer service setting.
