The Senior Manager, Acute Patient Access Services for Banner University ER leads a team focused on superior customer service, workflow management, and performance excellence. The role oversees shift operations, reporting, scheduling, team engagement, and on‑call coverage, while selecting, onboarding, coaching, and evaluating staff.
Position Summary The position manages the daily operation of designated registration areas, ensuring high‑quality patient registration, insurance verification, up‑front collection, financial counseling, and cashiering. The manager provides service excellence at every registration stage for patients, families, and medical providers.
Core Functions
Mentor staff under the direction of the PAS Sr. Director, establishing a solid succession plan.
Select, train, coach, motivate, and evaluate Team members while directing work flow and setting performance expectations.
Communicate patient registration and scheduling information to all relevant departments, maintaining positive interactions with patients, staff, physicians, and third parties.
Maximize cash flow by monitoring protocols for patient account management, including point‑of‑service cash and timely authorizations.
Develop and maintain an annual departmental budget; prepare staffing schedules while staying within budget limits.
Provide leadership and education to achieve accuracy, compliance, and productivity goals, reducing registration‑initiated denials.
Identify and implement process improvements, proposing strategic initiatives and communicating suggestions appropriately.
Ensure new hires complete successful onboarding, training, and 100% audit verification before autonomous performance.
Operate independently within general supervision, managing structured processes, making decisions, and participating in facility and system‑wide improvement teams. Holds responsibility for a $500K–$2.5M expense budget.
Minimum Qualifications • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field, or equivalent work experience. • Four or more years of supervisory experience with extensive hospital registration exposure and demonstrated leadership skills. • Advanced mathematical and analytical skills, knowledge of managed care contracts, third‑party payors (AHCCCS, Medicare), medical terminology, and independent decision‑making. • Strong communication, interpersonal, and conflict‑resolution abilities; proficiency with common office software.
Preferred Qualifications • CHAM certification preferred. • Strong skills using patient financial services databases and reporting tools.
