The ideal candidate will share Reedley College’s commitment to educating its racially and socioeconomically diverse student population.

Providing instruction in Wildland Fire Technology and Natural Resources under the general direction of the Dean of Instruction, the position provides instruction in wildland fire technology on the Reedley College campus and/or at off‑site community campus locations. The instructor will be responsible for:

Teaching a full schedule of Wildland Fire Technology and Forestry courses as assigned;

Assisting with maintaining chainsaws and firefighting equipment;

Assisting in job placement and work experience opportunities for students;

Planning and developing curriculum and scheduling of the Wildland program;

Participating in high‑school recruitment activities;

Participating in department and community activities;

Serving on and attending department, college, and district committees as needed;

Participating in program review, student learning outcome development and assessment to improve student learning;

Teaching assignments in a variety of instructional settings and times, including evening and/or weekends, online or off‑campus and large group instruction classes as needed;

Otherwise fulfilling all of the duties and responsibilities of instructors as required by Administrative Regulation 7122;

Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree AND two (2) years of full‑time equivalent professional experience;

Associate degree AND six (6) years of full‑time equivalent professional experience;

A valid California Community College Credential;

The equivalent education and/or experience (requires equivalency).

Desirable Qualifications

Experience and skill incorporating elements of diversity, equity, and inclusion into all areas of responsibility;

Recent experience working with African American, Asian/Pacific Islander, Latinx, Native American, and other racially minoritized students in the classroom and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups in higher education shape patterns of participation and outcomes;

Willingness to examine and remediate one’s instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized students;

Related work and professional experience;

Experience working with students of various cultural, gender, age, socioeconomic, and ethnic backgrounds, including disabled students;

Experience in teaching wildland fire and natural resources classes;

Occupational work experience in wildland fire and natural resources;

Demonstrated ability to issue National Wildland Coordinating Group (NWCG) certificates;

Demonstrated ability to involve students in lab activities on a school farm or school forest;

Attainment of National Wildfire Coordinating Group M‑410 Facilitative Instructor or California State Fire Marshal 1‑A/1‑B (required to be able to issue NWCG certificates as a course coordinator);

Qualified as a Single Resource Boss – Crew Boss or Engine Boss (minimum FIRE qualification needed to teach our base level National Wildland Coordinating Group NWCG coursework); Minimum of six (6) years work experience in wildland fire and natural resources;

Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly both orally and in writing;

Knowledge of computer programs related to instructional programs;

Knowledge of current assessment methods and materials;

Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with students and staff;

Potential for contribution to institutional vitality and growth;

Knowledge of the community college and its mission and goals.

Conditions of Employment 178 duty days per year.

Salary and Benefits Starting annual salary is $71,054 – $106,970 based on education and experience. Duty days will be prorated based upon start of assignment. An annual doctoral stipend of $2,419 is available. In addition, the District offers an attractive fringe benefit package including medical, dental, and vision coverage for the employee and dependents, and life insurance. Employees are also members of the California State Teacher’s Retirement System (CalSTRS).

Selection Procedure Applications will be screened by Human Resources for completeness and to determine which applicants meet the minimum qualifications as stated in the job announcement.

From the applicants who meet the minimum qualifications and who have submitted all the required documents by the closing date and time listed on the job announcement, a selection advisory committee will review the candidates who are best qualified based on the minimum and desirable qualifications then determine who will be invited to interview.

INTERVIEWS TENTATIVELY SCHEDULED AS FOLLOWS:

The selection advisory committee will rate responses to the interview questions, teaching demonstration, and writing prompt (if applicable). Based on this rating, a small number of applicants will be selected as the “recommended candidates”. These candidates will be forwarded to the Vice President and College President for final interviews.

A hiring recommendation will be made by the College President and forwarded to the Board of Trustees of State Center Community College District for final approval.
