Position Summary Put your maintenance and repair skills to good use at Vallen as a Lead Service Technician focused on Life Safety Services in the Vallen Safety Services Group. In this position, you will install and/or inspect, test, and maintain (ITM) life safety systems and equipment for established customers on a scheduled basis.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
Provide quality service to our customers and assist assigned HTS technicians with proper training in Vallen standard operating procedures.
Perform installation and/or ITM of Life Safety Systems, including Fire Extinguishers, Fire Alarm and Detection Systems, Gas Detection Systems, Foam Systems, Dry Chemical Systems, Clean Agent Systems, Special Hazard Systems, and Water Based Systems.
Coordinate jobs in the absence of a Technician Lead when assigned by the supervisor/manager.
Lead other technicians within your area of expertise.
Interact with customers to coordinate job activities.
Ensure all documentation associated with assigned tasks is filled out accurately, completely, and turned in for proper invoicing.
Provide required copies to the customer upon servicing equipment.
Maintain knowledge of all regulatory standards, i.e., State, OSHA, and NFPA regulations.
Handle Parts & Equipment requests for specific assigned jobs.
Maintain accurate inventories related to job and maintenance orders.
Always exhibit safe work practices.
Assist shipping and receiving, unloading trucks, checking in merchandise, matching purchase orders to sales orders, and distributing to sales associates for processing.
Use company assets such as Company Vehicle, Inventory, Safety Equipment, Laptop, BR Scanner, Test Equipment, Tools, Radio, Cell Phone, Fuel Card, and/or Credit Card responsibly.
Maintain proper care of all assets as defined by Vallen policies.
Possess immediate supervision over a tech service unit when assigned.
Job Qualifications
High School or GED
Minimum 3 certifications in a fire protection related field (manufacturing/state)
NICET II or greater
Fire Alarm & Ext A 2‑4 years’ experience or WBS Construction 2‑4 years’ experience (industry related)
RME‑I (if applicable)
Mechanically inclined
Advance communication, initiative, and problem‑solving skills
Experience in the installation and/or maintenance, repair, and service of Life Safety Systems and equipment is required.
Maintain minimum productivity of 95% within 60 days.
Demonstrated ability to successfully manage a Customer Acct or Project.
Ability to repair and service equipment sold by Vallen.
Current Motor Vehicle License with good driving record.
Commercial Driver’s License required if carrying loads of hazardous materials.
Proficient with hand tools.
Able to complete repairs and maintenance of equipment in a timely and accurate manner.
Able to provide assistance, advise, and training to Vallen associates and plant personnel.
Assist warehouse personnel with order fulfillment if needed.
Keep all certifications and licenses current and renewed by completing continuing education as required.
Must pass Drug & Alcohol screen, Physical exam, and background check.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
Indoor and outdoor field service work; may work in hazardous environments.
Ability to work in climatic weather (cold/heat) during day or night operations.
Occasional lifting of items weighing a maximum of 55 lbs.
Ability to climb stairwells up to 15 levels high.
Ability to ascend and descend ladders (step, extension, cage) up to 24' high.
Able to walk at a normal pace for up to 15 continuous minutes.
Able to work from a standing position for 8‑10 hours.
Bending, climbing, and stooping as needed for access of equipment to repair and service.
Pass all test requirements to be approved to work offshore (if applicable).
