Albany Medical Center The Registered Respiratory Therapist I (RT-I) is licensed by the NYS Department of Education to perform respiratory therapy procedures, cardio-respiratory diagnostics, and patient assessment under the direction of a licensed physician. RT-I’s are capable to assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders. They assume primary responsibility for all respiratory care modalities, including the supervision of respiratory therapy technicians. Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures; maintain patient records; and select, assemble, check, and operate equipment. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each duty satisfactorily as outlined in the annual competency assessment as well as possess an active NYS License to practice Respiratory Care as a Registered Respiratory Therapist. An active Basic Life Support certificate is required; active ACLS certification is preferred.

Responsibilities
Assess, treat, and care for patients with breathing disorders. Initiate and conduct respiratory therapy procedures; maintain patient records. Supervise respiratory therapy technicians and operate equipment. Initiate and conduct therapeutic procedures; maintain patient records; and select, assemble, check, and operate equipment.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate of an AMA-approved program of Respiratory Care (Minimum – Associate Degree). Licensure, Certification & Registration: Active NYS Respiratory Therapist License with up-to-date CE profile and free of disciplinary action. Experience: At least 1 year of experience as an RRT in an academic medical center environment; pediatric and adult critical care skills desirable. New Graduate of a CoARC-approved Respiratory Care Program acceptable (clinical rotations). Desirable: Experience with emergency department procedures and exposure to neonatal patient management. Experience with patient transport (inter- and intra-hospital). Certification: Active Basic Life Support; ACLS preferred.
