Job Title: SMT Operator Operators in the Surface Mount Technology (SMT) department will support all facets of production of surface mount products that are sold to customers and integrated into electronic devices. This is a mid-level position, and all equipment and processes will be trained.

Responsibilities

Spot and address quality defects in the assembly process and alert supervision to take corrective action.

Read work instructions, travelers, and drawings to guide proper assembly of products.

Set up SMT equipment at the beginning of the production job.

Properly start up and shut down equipment at the beginning and end of the shift.

Run and monitor assembly machinery, including Stencil Printer, Solder Paste Inspection, SMT Pick & Place Machine, and Reflow Oven.

Communicate effectively with colleagues from other departments as well as direct supervision.

Monitor the assembly line and related machinery and tools for proper functionality.

Visually inspect finished products to ensure correct assembly and make improvements or take corrective action.

Inspect SMT components for IPC guidelines regarding placement and solder quality.

Load and unload components into fixtures and machines.

Kit components into job boxes by properly reading labels, Bills of Materials, component markings, and associated documentation.

Practice proper ESD and safety controls.

Keep the work area clean and organized.

Essential Skills

Basic computer knowledge, including MS Excel and Word.

Good reading and visual comprehension and a basic grasp of mathematics.

Ability to read measuring devices to perform required assembly and inspection duties.

Attention to detail and the ability to spot small defects and potential problems in all products.

Experience in electrical assembly manufacturing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Soldering experience is highly advantageous.

IPC certifications are beneficial.

Experience in the printed circuit board industry is a plus.

Work Environment The work is conducted in a manufacturing environment that is temperature controlled year-round. The facility is exceptionally clean and bright. The shifts include the 2nd shift from 2 PM to 10:30 PM (may start earlier based on leadership decisions) and the 1st shift from 7 AM to 3:30 PM, which is used for training. Overtime is mandatory at times, particularly during the summer, with the possibility of working 1-2 Saturdays per month.

Job Type & Location This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Indianapolis, IN.

Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $18.00 - $20.00/hr.
