Engineering Aide Trainee (Seasonal) – St. Louis County, MN
Salary: Current wage rates up to $19.10 per hour; 2026 rates pending.
Position: Seasonal, full-time positions for summer 2026, located in Duluth, Ely, Hibbing and Virginia. Applicants select preferred location during application.
Job Purpose Perform routine elementary highway engineering field work. Provide hands‑on training for future civil engineering career.
Key Responsibilities
Apply civil engineering principles and technology to field work.
Learn surveying techniques and use modern equipment such as robotic total stations, data collectors, GPS, AutoCAD, Trimble Survey.
Assist with construction projects, work with survey crews and support full‑time employees.
Perform elementary tasks: field measurements, staking, utility measure‑downs, field notes, basic computations.
Operate and adjust surveying instruments; compile notes, sketches and computer data.
Maintain punctual and reliable attendance, comply with safety rules and use proper safety equipment.
Perform related work as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
17 years old with high‑school diploma (or 18 years old at start of work).
Valid driver’s license.
Additional Requirements
Applicants must be continuously authorized to work in U.S.; no visa sponsorship.
All new employees must provide documentation for employment eligibility within three days.
Selected applicants must pass drug test and background check.
Physical & Medical Standards Applicants must be able to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation. Reasonable accommodation will be considered.
Veterans Preference Eligible veterans must attach required documentation: DD‑214, disability letter, marriage & death certificates as applicable.
Work Environment Work outdoors, with others; lift up to 20 pounds, stand, move, kneel, use fingers, field operations. Environmental exposure: dust, dirt, weather.
