What You’ll Do as a DSP As a Direct Support Professional, you’ll play a key role in helping individuals with I/DD gain life skills, independence, and confidence. Your daily support helps people lead richer, more connected lives. Your responsibilities include: Building trusting relationships with the people you support Helping individuals meet personal, social, and workplace goals Supporting communication, self-advocacy, and community engagement Providing guidance at job sites or during daily living tasks Encouraging independence through positive reinforcement and skill-building Collaborating with families, support staff, and professionals Ensuring accurate documentation and health/safety monitoring Embracing training and ongoing learning opportunities The Heart of the Job: Why Being a DSP Matters This isn’t just a job — it’s a calling.
