Summary
Direct Support Professionals in our Supported Living Services department are the first point of contact between Arc of Greater New Orleans and participants. They coordinate daily direct support, meet participant needs, and maintain an environment that encourages independence. Responsibilities
Make daily decisions concerning DSP services within policy and procedure guidelines. Communicate with the program supervisor regarding participant-related activities. Maintain a caring and safe environment for participants. Complete scheduled training and continued education. Collaborate with participants, families, case managers, and team members to develop and implement a service plan. Practice preventative safety and health care, including immediate treatment of illness. Act as a skilled trainer based on participant needs (e.g., cooking, chores, budgeting). Implement and document outcomes and methods per ISP and Behavior Management. Advocate for all participants as appropriate. Drive morning or afternoon routes, including picking up participants from homes or dropping them off at homes. Qualifications
High school diploma or GED preferred. 1–2 years of verified work experience (or high school diploma). Previous experience working with persons with developmental disabilities preferred. Cell phone with data plan required. Valid Louisiana driver’s license required. Working Conditions & Physical Demands
This role requires heavy activity, including sitting, standing, walking, carrying, and prolonged periods of activity while assisting another person. Ability to lift both light and heavy items as needed, occasionally. Ability to drive another person to and from various locations. EEO Statement
