Job Summary and Responsibilities

Operates diagnostic ultrasound equipment to perform diagnostic ultrasound procedures.

Responsible for cleaning ultrasound transducers and QC documentation.

Prepares patient for the procedure, gathering relevant information for documentation and scanning (orders, questionnaires, consents).

Uses appropriate thermoregulation, using warmed ultrasonic gel.

Practices radiation safety in radiography of patients.

Evaluates images for optimal technical quality prior to sending to PACS. Is proficient in all PACS and digital imaging applications. Reviews studies as needed with the radiologist to determine any need for additional imaging.

Prepares ultrasound rooms with the necessary equipment and supplies for the procedure.

Assists physicians with diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

Administers contrast media, as required, and performs eMAR functions as necessary.

Performs quality control procedures in compliance with state and federal regulations to maintain quality and safety standards.

Maintains established departmental policies/procedures, objectives, performance improvement measures, safety, environmental and infection control standards.

Participates in the Patient Satisfaction Survey process.

Performs Time‑Out procedure as needed.

Performs medication reconciliation as needed.

Performs patient assessments, obtaining pertinent patient information and history.

Assists with patient transport and transfer as needed, assuring patient comfort and safety at all times.

Provides patient and family education as necessary.

Maintains orderly and clean work area. Checks equipment, supplies and accessories on a regular basis.

Performs clerical, reception and scheduling duties as necessary.

Operates Meditech, other computers, printers and copiers with proficiency.

Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature and in‑services to meet the continuing education requirements of the ARRT or other professional organizations.

Attends and participates in departmental and hospital wide meetings, as designated.

Establishes and maintains a good rapport and professional relationship with fellow employees, other departments and the medical staff. Follows standards of behavior.

Able to access MSDS sheets.

Performs other related duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications, Licensure & Certifications

Current certification by ARDMS or similar approved certification. Must be registry eligible if new graduate of an accredited school and must complete ultrasound certification within six months of hire.

BLS Certified.

Graduate of an accredited school of diagnostic medical sonography.

Hours: Full time, weekdays only.

Facility Overview LewisGale Hospital‑Alleghany is a 204‑bed acute care facility in Low Moor, Virginia. We serve patients in both Virginia and West Virginia. We offer a full range of medical specialties from emergency medicine to general surgery. The facility houses the Senior Transitions program, a 15‑bed specialty unit for seniors with emotional and behavioral issues requiring short‑term acute stabilization.
