Join the City of Coconut Creek summer day camp program as a volunteer counselor‑in‑training. This position is temporary, carries no employee benefits, and is open to volunteers aged 14 and older who meet the qualifications below.
Salary Volunteer position (no pay).
Hours of Operation Monday through Friday, between 7:15 AM and 6:15 PM (actual schedule may vary). Duration of the summer program: June 8, 2026 through July 31, 2026.
Work Locations
Recreation Complex – 4455 Sol Pres Blvd., Coconut Creek, FL 33073
Community Center – 1100 Lyons Road, Coconut Creek, FL 33063
Applicants must be available to work for the entire program at the assigned location. Mandatory orientation is scheduled for the week of June 1, 2026; specific locations and times will be announced later.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Interact with campers and staff in parks/facilities.
Observe and respect all policies, procedures, staff, and campers.
Perform park/facility maintenance such as garbage removal and debris control.
Attend all camp field trips.
Assist in planning and organizing games and activities.
Assist in overseeing and controlling assigned age group.
Assist in gathering members of groups for participation in each specialized activity.
Assist in issuing and collecting games and equipment.
Escort campers onsite (bathrooms, pickups, etc.) and during field trips.
Qualifications
Must be 14 years of age by September 1, 2026, and will be entering at least 9th grade by the 2027‑2028 school year.
Desire to work in a summer camp environment.
Availability to work for the entire duration of the summer program.
Ability to interact with children effectively.
Ability to ensure cleanliness of parks and grounds, and identify potential problems in a camp setting.
Knowledge of park and recreation activities is a plus.
Previous volunteer experience in a recreation setting is preferred.
Babysitting experience is preferred.
CPR and First Aid certification is preferred.
Effective verbal communication and ability to understand written instructions.
Supplemental Information Physical Demands The job requires walking, running, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, speaking, hearing, and handling objects. Occasionally lift up to 50 lb. Work exposure includes outside weather, wet/humid conditions, and loud noise.
Background Requirements All volunteers must pass a physical/drug test and background check. Fingerprinting is required; fingerprints are checked through the State of Florida’s Volunteer and Employee Criminal History System (VECHS) and the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
Notes for Applicants with Disabilities Applicants who require special accommodations for testing must advise Human Resources no later than one week prior to scheduled testing.
