8th Grade Science and Social Studies Long Term Substitute Teacher (Jan 5 - Mod 20)
Wage: $265 per day Location: Sun Prairie Area School District This position covers Science and Social Studies classes for Grade 8 from approximately January 5 – March 20, 2026. Due to its length, a teaching license in the relevant subject areas and/or an Elementary/Middle or Regular Education license covering grade 8 is required. SUMMARY
Performs the teacher’s class plan while the teacher is absent. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Assumes responsibility for instructing the classes when the teacher is absent. Assumes all other responsibilities of the teacher during the period of absence. Prepares lesson plans with assistance, as directed by an administrator, when lesson plans are not available. Maintains appropriate records: checking test papers, recording grades, student assignments, homework, projects, and other clerical work required to keep student records. Provides individualized and small‑group assistance for students as indicated by lesson plans. Note:
If the same position is held for over 20 days, the substitute will assume the teacher’s job description. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervises: students and oversees teacher assistants for instructional purposes. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Bachelor’s degree in education. Communication and Language Skills:
Ability to read, analyze, write, present information and respond to questions from students, staff, parents, administrators, and community. Mathematical Skills:
Ability to apply mathematics concepts appropriate to the grade level. Analytical and Reasoning Ability:
Solve practical problems, handle variable situations, interpret written, oral, diagrammatic or scheduled instructions. Other Skills and Abilities:
Apply current research and theory, establish relationships with students, staff, community; communicate clearly in written and oral forms; perform duties with awareness of district requirements and school board policies. Temperament:
Ability to perform a variety of duties. PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES
Tasks: stand, talk, hear; occasionally sit, walk, reach with hands; push or move up to 10 lb; continuous interaction with public and staff. Vision required: close vision and ability to adjust focus. Noise level usually moderate; work performed indoors. WORK ENVIRONMENT
Noisy environment moderate indoors. Certificates and Licenses
Must possess and maintain or be eligible for a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction license to teach. For assignments over 45 days, must hold a valid license for the specific substitute area. Physical Requirements
Shall complete a physical examination as required by Wisconsin Statute 118.25. Seniority Level
