Job Summary
Prepares tissue specimens for microscopic examinations and handles specialized histo‑ and immuno‑cyto‑chemistry testing within the Department of Anatomic Pathology. Maintains quality control data, processes specimens for molecular testing, troubleshoots processes, and supports high‑volume workload and stat requests.
Key Responsibilities
Complete daily workload including embedding, cutting, staining (histochemistry and immunocytochemistry) and any additional procedures requested by pathologists.
Perform and document instrument maintenance; maintain quality control records.
Train and provide direction/support to other histotechnologists and technicians.
Grossly identify tissue for adequacy in the operating room, communicate with attending/fellow, divide core and place in appropriate fixatives.
Assist in quality assurance, diagnostic testing, mentoring, and equipment maintenance as outlined.
Position Qualifications
Clinical certifications: Histotechnician and Histotechnologist credentials from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
Minimum 1 year relevant work experience.
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Demonstrated technical capabilities in quality assurance, diagnostic testing, mentoring, and equipment maintenance.
