Operate a variety of signal installation and maintenance equipment including aerial lift bucket trucks, hydraulic drills, electrical power tools, forklifts, and other similar equipment to repair, install, and maintain signals in various weather conditions. Participate in activities requiring travel to conduct inspections, preventative maintenance, and repair of traffic signals and related equipment. Locate underground traffic signal facilities utilizing traffic signal plans, outside plant records, electronic locating equipment, shovels, probing rods, and other locating devices. Assist in determining and confirming proper placement of traffic signals; ensure proper location of utilities and other work hazards prior to digging. Analyze, test, and resolve traffic signal system malfunctions; repair electrical, electro‑mechanical, and electronic traffic signal components. Track work performed using internal tracking programs and products and assist other employees on proper use of programs and products. Perform on‑call technician duty for traffic signal malfunctions that occur after normal work hours, weekends, and holidays; respond to emergency situations as required, including malfunctions in hazardous and severe weather conditions. Assist with monitoring the City’s traffic signal network through the use of computers, Closed Circuit Television (CCTV), and field visits. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Experience:
No experience needed. Education:
Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade supplemented by additional specialized training in electronics, installation or maintenance of traffic signal devices or a related field. LICENSING & CERTIFICATIONS
Required:
Possession of an appropriate valid driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability. Possession of, or the ability to obtain, a class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within six months of hire. International Municipal Sign Association (IMSA) Traffic Signal Level I certification is required to be obtained within twelve months of hire. Applicants with an active CDL are preferred. Preferred:
