Tesla Motors, Inc.
What to Expect
At Tesla, we're revolutionizing sustainable transportation by pushing the boundaries of innovation in electric and autonomous vehicles. We're seeking a talented Dimensional Engineer to join our dynamic team and play a pivotal role in ensuring flawless dimensional quality during the new launch of vehicle programs, including next-generation models like the Cybercab and beyond. In this fast-paced role, you'll fill a critical gap by serving as the dimensional expert from design checkpoints through production launch, identifying and resolving issues early to deliver world-class craftsmanship, operational efficiency, and cost savings. If you're passionate about precision engineering and thrive in collaborative, high-stakes environments, this is your chance to shape the future of mobility.
What You'll Do
Serve as the dimensional lead for new vehicle programs, identifying critical parts from suppliers, verifying dimensional control plans, overseeing checking fixtures, and coordinating launch kick-offs to ensure seamless execution
Lead critical point selection for subassemblies in new metrology programs, developing glide paths to achieve conformance with production intent standards through collaboration with working groups
Conduct top issues reviews for new programs, performing root cause analysis by contributor, and leading resolution efforts with cross‑functional teams to mitigate dimensional discrepancies. Participate in change order (CAD change) reviews for dimensionally critical parts in new programs, ensuring alignment with quality and performance requirements
During vehicle design checkpoints for new vehicles, take a lead role in reviewing the initial part print and assessing manufacturability to optimize outcomes
During tooling design checkpoints for new production lines, lead reviews and participate in design for manufacturability (DFM) meetings to drive quality enhancements, operational efficiency, and cost reductions
Provide dimensional engineering support for drive unit components, ensuring integration and quality across related systems
What You'll Bring
Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or Manufacturing related field, or equivalent experience
3+ years of experience in dimensional engineering, quality assurance, or related roles within automotive or manufacturing industries
Proven expertise in dimensional analysis tools, GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing)
Strong leadership skills with experience leading cross‑functional teams and working with suppliers
Excellent problem‑solving abilities, including root cause analysis and resolution of complex dimensional issues
Familiarity with production intent standards (e.g., PIST), capability analysis, and design for manufacturability principles
