Digital Technology Services (DTS)
team at Deaconess Health System. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in designing, implementing, and maintaining our telecom infrastructure. You will manage complex voice and data communication systems, troubleshoot issues, and ensure the seamless operation of all telecommunication systems across the organization, helping to drive operational efficiency and enhance communication across the health system.

Job Overview The Telecom Engineer III
is responsible for overseeing the design, implementation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of telecom systems and technologies used across the health system. This includes but is not limited to, VoIP (Voice over IP) systems, unified communications platforms, telecom network design, and the overall health of telecom infrastructure. You will collaborate with internal teams, manage telecom vendors, and provide subject matter expertise on telecom-related issues and projects.
As the Telecom Engineer III, you will play a senior role in designing telecom solutions, managing projects related to telecom infrastructure, and providing leadership and guidance to junior engineers. You will ensure optimal telecom performance, contribute to strategic initiatives, and recommend improvements to ensure that the organization’s communication systems are efficient, secure, and scalable.
What You Will Do
Telecom System Design and Implementation:
Plan, design, and implement telecom solutions, including VoIP, unified communications systems, and call center technologies.
System Maintenance:
Maintain and optimize telecom systems, including troubleshooting and resolving issues with telecom networks, hardware, and software.
Project Management:
Lead telecom-related projects, including system upgrades, new installations, and vendor management. Develop work plans, coordinate resources, and ensure timely project completion.
Vendor Management:
Serve as the primary liaison with telecom service providers, ensuring effective service delivery, managing contracts, and troubleshooting vendor issues as they arise.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Continuously monitor telecom systems for performance issues, uptime, and capacity utilization, and provide detailed reports on system performance and issues.
Troubleshooting and Issue Resolution:
Troubleshoot and resolve complex telecom issues across the organization, ensuring minimal downtime and optimal system performance.
Documentation and Standards:
Create and maintain documentation for telecom systems, including network diagrams, configuration settings, system standards, and operational procedures.
Support and Training:
Provide training and support to junior engineers and other team members on telecom systems, best practices, and troubleshooting techniques.
Continuous Improvement:
Identify opportunities for system improvements, performance optimization, and cost reductions. Research and recommend new telecom technologies and solutions to enhance operations.
Compliance:
Ensure all telecom systems are in compliance with relevant laws, regulations, and healthcare-specific standards (e.g., HIPAA).
What You Will Need Education
Bachelor’s Degree
in Telecommunications, Computer Science, or a related field — Required
Certifications
in telecom systems (e.g., Cisco, Avaya, VoIP, etc.) — Preferred
Experience
Minimum of 5 years
of experience in telecom engineering or a related field, with hands‑on experience in the design, implementation, and maintenance of telecom systems — Required
Experience in
VoIP systems, unified communications,
and
call center technologies
— Required
Healthcare IT
or enterprise-level telecom management experience
— Preferred
