Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction (ODRC) – Grafton Correctional Institution, Lorain County, Ohio
Responsibilities
Lead and train inmates and staff in semi‑skilled and skilled maintenance repair work (electrical, carpentry, grounds keeping, plumbing).
Inspect buildings and equipment, perform preventive maintenance, and repair equipment such as fixtures, switches, motors, appliances, and HVAC components.
Repair carpentry items (doors, locks, cabinets, floors, walls, windows, stairways, partitions) and plumbing fixtures (pumps, valves, faucets, toilets, sinks, bathtubs).
Operate machine tools and welding equipment to repair metal parts and equipment.
Maintain tools, complete tool counts and inventories, and ensure secure tool storage.
Control inmate movement, conduct searches during security breaches, respond to emergencies, and attend meetings and training.
Perform interior custodial duties (mopping, sweeping, waxing floors, washing walls and windows) and exterior grounds keeping duties.
Remove snow and ice from sidewalks.
Participate on institution committees.
Qualifications Formal education in arithmetic including addition & subtraction, reading, writing and speaking common English vocabulary; 12 months of training or 12 months of experience in maintenance repair (basic electrical, plumbing, carpentry, masonry and use of associated hand & power tools & equipment).
Valid commercial driver’s license required if motor equipment is of type & size regulated by Sections 4506.01 & 4506.12 of Ohio revised code; applicants must have successfully completed the mandated basic firefighter/introduction to fire behavior course (S-130/S-190).
