Job Title: Infection Prevention Specialist
Job Location: Titusville, FL
Job Summary The Infection Prevention Professional reports to the Quality Manager. The Infection Prevention Professional is responsible for the surveillance, analysis, interpretation, and reporting of infectious and communicable diseases, educating care partners about infection prevention, and the development of policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection control standards that meet regulatory and nationally organized agency recommendations and requirements. The Infection Prevention Professional enters data into State/National databases, assesses the educational needs of all care partners, and develops educational plans and curricula in response to identified organization needs, goals, and infectious/communicable disease trends. Participates in infection prevention/safety environmental rounds and provides support to clinical employee health as needed. Plans, develops, and implements quality process improvement methodology to improve clinical and process outcomes. Is responsible for annual reviews with updates to the Infection Control and Prevention Plan for PMC. Coordinates and facilitates the Infection Control and Prevention Committee. Prepares timely reports to external agencies as required.
Job Responsibilities
Perform ongoing surveillance, data collection and reporting of infectious and communicable diseases, analyze the data to identify trends, root causes and opportunities for intervention.
Develop, implement, and continuously monitor system practices to prevent known and future infectious states using industry and population best practices.
Serve as a subject matter expert in infection prevention and provide consultation, education and training to clinical and non-clinical care partners across all departments to promote a safe environment and reduce the risk of healthcare associated infections (HAI).
Compile dashboard reports for Medical Staff Department, Nursing Department, and multidisciplinary department committee meetings.
Participate in the development of policies and procedures to ensure rigorous infection control standards that meet regulatory and nationally organized agency recommendations and requirements.
Assess the educational needs of all care partners and develop educational plans and curricula in response to identified organization needs, goals, and infectious/communicable disease trends.
Plan, develop, and implement quality process improvement methodology to improve clinical and process outcomes. Lead and participate in performance improvement initiatives related to infection control, including hand hygiene, device-associated infections and surgical site infection prevention.
Investigate suspected infection outbreaks and lead containment and mitigation efforts.
Participate in emergency preparedness and response efforts.
Perform similar or related duties as assigned.
Know fire, disaster and safety procedures and regulations as it pertains to the work area.
Rounds
Infection prevention: transmission-based precautions protocols, PPE compliance, hand hygiene compliance, cleaning and disinfection.
Safety: construction, water management.
Environmental: biohazardous waste, room pressures.
Interdisciplinary: invasive device management (usage and necessity).
Job Requirements
Bachelor's Degree required; Master’s preferred. Majors preferred: Epidemiology, Nursing, Public Health, Clinical Laboratory or related healthcare field.
Preferred to have a nurse with an active or inactive license but nursing license is not a hard requirement.
2-3 years of experience in a relevant position required.
Certification in Infection Prevention and Control (CIC) required (MUST BE ON RESUME).
