Overview This position is part of the Tennessee State Parks Operations maintenance series. It is the second classification in the TSP Maintenance Series and is responsible for ground maintenance, janitorial tasks, facility maintenance and repair, equipment operation, fire suppression, and prevention. It differs from the TSP Maintenance Worker, which handles less complex repairs, and from the TSP Maintenance Lead, which performs more complex repairs and trains staff.

Responsibilities

Assist Park Rangers with controlled burns and forest fire suppression using hand tools, flappers, and fire rakes; remove brush for fire prevention; provide basic customer service to the public and direct people to appropriate solutions.

Perform grounds maintenance work, including cutting and trimming grass and tree limbs, inspecting facilities for safety hazards, and patching holes in roads and sidewalks for public safety.

Carry out janitorial tasks such as floor buffing, mopping, power washing, wall cleaning, vent cleaning, supply restocking, and carpet shampooing; remove trash and clean trash cans.

Handle physical labor tasks such as unloading trucks, moving large furniture and equipment, setting up cubicle spaces and conference rooms, and assisting during special events.

Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on equipment, vehicles, and tools; assist higher‑level staff with complex repairs; keep digital or physical records and submit routine reports.

Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on buildings and facilities, including general repairs, air filter replacement, painting, and window replacement; assist with carpentry and complex repairs; install bulletin boards and safety signs.

Operate and use equipment such as mowers, trimmers, trucks, and tractors; operate state‑issued pickup trucks, golf carts, and watercraft.

Handle routine plumbing tasks such as unclogging toilets, replacing fixtures, and repairing minor leaks; assist with installation and repair of plumbing, water lines, septic lines, and tanks; perform routine electrical tasks such as wiring outlets and changing light bulbs.
