Marine Service Technician Trainee
Job Summary
Summit Fire & Security is seeking a Marine Service Technician Trainee to inspect, service and install fire systems and associated equipment in marine settings. The role supports the Department of Marine, Harbor, and Offshore (DMHO), ensuring all systems meet applicable codes, regulations, and manufacturer requirements.
Essential Job Duties
Assist Marine Service Technicians with inspecting, servicing, and installing fire protection and life safety systems.
Use power tools, wrenches, drills and test equipment to perform assigned tasks.
Inspect, troubleshoot, and repair or replace defective components under direct supervision of an experienced Marine Service Technician.
Communicate with internal and external customers in a professional manner.
Be punctual to required work locations and complete scheduled projects in a timely manner.
Use Field Service software to track work orders, materials needed, time on job, etc.
Complete accurate and thorough documentation for all work orders.
Understand and adhere to all relevant codes, regulations, and safety standards.
Follow SFS’s Safety Program, including Hazardous Communication policies and procedures.
Be placed in on‑call status as required by location to handle emergency service requests.
Periodically attend seminars or training sessions to stay abreast of latest technology, codes, and standards changes.
Fluent in operations and service of equipment per manufacturers’ training.
Participate in weekly Toolbox talks.
Maintain visibility of all related safety documentation on each project.
Complete Summit’s Marine Approved Service Technician (M.A.S.T.) program.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent – required.
0–1 year of Fire Life Safety Industry experience, particularly in marine applications – advantage.
Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record – required.
Ready to comply with SFS’s Drug and Alcohol policy and background screening requirements.
Must be able to travel up to 90% of the time locally.
1+ year of professional computer skills.
Strong written and spoken communication skills in English.
Physical & Work Environment Requirements Responsibilities include working on board, in‑water vessels, bending, ascending and descending step stools, ladders, and stairs. Employees may need to kneel, lift up to 50 lbs, reach above and below shoulder level, stand, walk for extended periods, see in color, close and far distances, and handle loud noises, cramped quarters, dust, fumes, and electrical hazards. Occasionally work at heights and lift >50 lbs. Local travel is frequent and sometimes regional travel is required. All work environments may be hot or cold temperatures and may expose employees to chemicals and moving machinery. All employees must wear appropriate personal protective equipment per company safety policies.
