What You’ll Do

Develop a deep understanding of actuarial methodologies and data manipulation techniques. Conduct rigorous analyses, adhering to actuarial standards, to develop insightful recommendations. Document assumptions, methods, and sources in a clear and organized manner. Prepare actuarial findings and documents suitable for both technical and non-technical audiences. Collaborate with team members to ensure timely completion of projects and meet deadlines. Build strong business relationships across property and casualty multi-channel finance. Team Structure

This position reports to an Actuarial leader and is part of a team focused on umbrella pricing across multiple business units – Commercial Lines, Agribusiness and Excess & Surplus. There will be many opportunities to build your foundation of actuarial knowledge through various projects related to rate level indications and risk segmentation. In addition, you’ll collaborate with a diverse group of professionals – underwriting, finance, product, actuarial – contributing to a supportive and growth-oriented environment. Priorities

Master actuarial methodologies and data analysis techniques. Contribute to the development of innovative solutions to complex business problems. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders across the organization. Continuously improve your skills and knowledge through ongoing training and development. Qualifications

Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data related field. Passed two or more actuarial exams. Basic understanding of Microsoft Office products, analytical software, and programming languages such as SQL, R, and Python. Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills. Work Arrangements

This role will work on a hybrid schedule, with 2 days per week at one of our office locations in Columbus, OH, or Des Moines, IA. Relocation assistance may be provided. Ready to Join Nationwide?

Our P&C Actuarial team members use state-of-the-art tools, innovate, and master actuarial methodologies. The Senior Analyst will learn about the insurance and finance industry, products Nationwide provides and a variety of actuarial software. The role will conduct mathematical and quantitative actuarial analyses essential to Nationwide’s success. Key Responsibilities

Develop knowledge of actuarial methodologies and data manipulation techniques. Conduct analysis adhering to actuarial standards, selecting appropriate data sources and making assumptions to develop recommendations. Document assumptions, methods, sources, and considerations in an organized fashion. Prepare actuarial findings and documents suitable for technical and non-technical audiences. Ensure timely completion of tasks and projects. Participate in peer reviews to enhance collaboration and quality. Develop business relationships across property and casualty multi-channel finance. Complete required training in a timely manner. Understand data mining techniques and model use. Reporting Relationships

Reports to an Actuarial, Analytics, or Risk Management leader. Typical Skills and Experiences

Education

Undergraduate degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, data science or similar background requiring modeling, programming or quantitative analysis. License/Certification/Designation

Has passed one or more actuarial exams and is actively enrolled in the Actuarial Student Program. Experience

No actuarial experience required. Candidates may have internship, associate rotation, teaching, or tutoring experience. Knowledge, Abilities and Skills

Basic understanding of Microsoft Office products, analytical software, and programming languages. Competencies include business understanding, problem solving, customer focus, dealing with ambiguity, drive for results, and learning ability. Benefits
