Job Summary
The Certified Medical Assistant performs patient care under the direction of a physician and supervision of the lead nurse in an ambulatory care setting.
Responsibilities
Accountable to the Assistant Nurse Manager, Nursing Operations Manager, or Practice Manager for operational issues.
Participate in quality initiatives, goal attainment, and clinical outcome process improvement activities.
Communicate effectively and professionally with patients and family members.
Collaborate with administrative and operations staff.
Gather patient data through interview and observation.
Assist patients and families with preparation for examination.
Assist the physician during examination and procedures.
Demonstrate competency in specific tasks and skills as defined by the practice.
Provide routine treatments and administer approved medication types.
Document patient data, treatments, procedures, and patient education according to Orlando Health and department policies.
Serve as a liaison to schedule specialty testing or physician consultations.
Process incoming and outgoing calls in a professional manner using sound clinical judgment.
Adhere to Orlando Health policies, procedures, value statements, and commitment to excellent standards.
Maintain personal and patient safety practices and infection control standards.
Maintain regular, punctual attendance in accordance with Orlando Health, ADA, FMLA, and other standards.
Ensure compliance with all Orlando Health policies and procedures.
Other Related Functions
Demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care and assess data appropriate to age‑specific patient needs.
Understand medical/legal issues, patient rights, and compliance with regulatory standards.
Use supplies efficiently.
Assist the business office with reception, scheduling, and discharge of patients.
Qualifications
Education/Training
– High school graduate or equivalent. Successful completion of Medical Assistant training from an approved technical school, or 5 years of verifiable applicable work experience in a patient‑care setting.
Licensure/Certification
– Maintain current BLS Healthcare Provider Certification. Maintain certification by one of the following agencies:
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) – American Medical Technologists (AMT)
Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – National Healthcareer Association (NHA)
National Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) – National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)
Experience
– 1 year of medical assistant experience preferred.
