Job Summary The Perioperative Services Tech supports the surgical team by performing a variety of duties related to patient care, environmental maintenance, and supply handling in the operating room and perioperative areas. Working under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Surgical Technologist, this position plays a key role in preparing the surgical environment and ensuring safe, efficient care for patients undergoing procedures.
Key Responsibilities
Assists with patient care and observation duties under the supervision of a Registered Nurse, LPN, or Surgical Technologist.
May assist with set up of operating rooms for surgical procedures.
Opens sterile supplies and instruments under the direction of a Registered Nurse or Surgical Technologist, ensuring proper aseptic technique is followed.
Stocks, sets up, and maintains specialty carts and equipment needed for surgical procedures.
Maintains supplies, equipment, and instruments in a clean and aseptic condition.
Performs routine cleaning, disinfection, and trash removal in the perioperative environment.
May assist with transporting patients safely to and from the operating area.
Replenishes stock of supplies, medications (as permitted), and linens before, during, and after procedures.
Provides excellent customer service by greeting and assisting patients, family members, and healthcare team members.
Complies with hospital policies and safety standards, including infection control and personal protective equipment (PPE) guidelines.
Performs other duties as assigned to support perioperative services.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Previous experience in a healthcare setting preferred but not required.
Physical Requirements (Medium Work)
Ability to lift 20–50 lbs occasionally, 11–25 lbs frequently, and up to 10 lbs constantly.
Frequent standing and walking; occasional sitting.
Ability to perform close visual work including reading, typing, and inspecting sterile items.
Physical demands and tasks may vary based on assigned area.
Work Environment Exposure to potential hazards such as blood-borne pathogens, biohazardous waste, chemicals, fumes, communicable diseases, and radiation. Working conditions include varying temperatures, indoor/outdoor transitions, and patient care environments. Use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, as required. May involve shift work and occasional travel.
