Strategic EHS Site Leader – Manufacturing
Location:
Upstate South Carolina (Spartanburg Area)
The Opportunity Our client, a premier global manufacturer, is seeking a high-caliber EHS Site Leader / Manager for their flagship Spartanburg facility. This pivotal role serves as the primary architect for the site’s safety culture and environmental stewardship. Reporting directly to the VP of Operations, you will lead a dedicated internal team to drive operational excellence, mitigate high-level industrial risks, and move the organization toward a proactive "ownership" model of safety.
Core Responsibilities
Strategic Direction:
Define and execute a comprehensive EHS vision that aligns with global corporate goals while fostering local employee engagement and accountability.
Operational Risk Mitigation:
Develop and implement sophisticated risk-assessment frameworks to identify and neutralize hazards within complex mechanical and fabrication processes.
Team Leadership:
Mentor and manage the site EHS staff, providing coaching and professional development to ensure subject matter expertise across all shifts.
Integrated Management Systems:
Maintain and improve site-wide ISO standards (14001, 45001, and 9001), ensuring the facility exceeds audit expectations and regulatory benchmarks.
Performance Analytics:
Establish and monitor advanced leading and lagging indicators to provide facility leadership with data-driven insights for continuous improvement.
Capital Project Integration:
Partner with Engineering and Maintenance teams during the planning and execution of equipment installs and facility upgrades to ensure safety-by-design.
Occupational Health & Wellness:
Oversee site-wide occupational health programs, including ergonomic assessments and environmental monitoring to protect the long-term well-being of the workforce.
Incident Investigation:
Lead cross-functional teams in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) following any safety or environmental excursions, ensuring robust corrective actions are institutionalized.
Required Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Safety, Engineering, Environmental Science, or a related technical field.
Experience:
7+ years of progressive EHS leadership experience within a large-scale industrial or complex manufacturing environment (e.g., Automotive, Chemicals, Plastics, Metals, or Heavy Equipment).
Certification:
Certified Safety Professional (CSP) designation is required.
Regulatory Expertise:
Proven track record of interfacing with state and federal agencies (OSHA, DHEC/EPA) to maintain a stellar compliance record.
Leadership:
Demonstrated ability to challenge the status quo and influence change at both the shop-floor and executive levels.
Preferred Expertise
Experience managing EHS in facilities with automated assembly or high-energy manufacturing processes.
In-depth mastery of ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 implementation and auditing.
Knowledge of OSHA standards as they relate to heavy machinery, lock-out/tag-out, and fall protection.
Advanced skills in Lean Manufacturing or Six Sigma methodologies as applied to safety improvements.
