Job Summary:
We are looking for a Project Accountant who will report to the Accounting Supervisor based locally. In this role you will be part of the Regional Accounting Team in performing cost and profitability analysis for major projects at the Mogas Houston, TX plant, supporting Finance Business Partners and Operations leadership to provide insight, consultation, and governance over project performance.
Primary owner of cost estimate data collection, analysis, and presentation throughout lifecycle of POC projects in collaboration with cross-functional groups to support project reviews and overall health assessment for the Mogas plant. You will also be responsible for cost accounting related duties.
Responsibilities:
Prepare monthly cost Estimate at Completion (EAC) package for all major projects
Identify, investigate, and document unusual or unexpected fluctuations
Engage with cross-functional groups to support project change management process
Update Project Financial Summary monthly for presentation to leadership
Participate actively in monthly project reviews, providing critical insight to leadership based on analysis performed
Collaborate with cost accountant and POC analyst to monitor, analyze, and present incurred and expected costs of projects
Monitor key project financial health metrics including billings, AR collections, contract assets/liabilities, inventory, and reserves
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support risks and opportunities assessment on projects
Support POC Analyst in calculation and review of monthly POC revenue recognition process
Facilitate performance of key control for review and approval of POC project estimates by all required team members
Support and provide value-added insight during implementation of SAP throughout the business requirements, data migration, and conversion processes
Requirements:
At least 2 years’ relevant cost accounting experience at industrial manufacturing companies
Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
Percentage of Completion (POC) and/or project accounting experience
Intermediate to advanced experience with Excel spreadsheets
Knowledge of and familiarity with US GAAP
Knowledge of ASC 606
Perform cost accounting activities including journal entries, account reconciliations, and month-end close tasks.
Support standard cost development, variance analysis, and cost roll-ups.
Prepare and reconcile inventory and WIP (work-in-progress) accounts.
Ensure accurate recording of accruals, prepaids, and cost allocations.
Ability to manage large volumes of data, understand and present summary information
Strong communication skills to support cross-function collaboration
Detail oriented, analytical, and data driven mindset
Process-oriented approach with focus on quality work products and deadline adherence
Ability to prioritize, plan, perform and communicate activities both in written and verbal form
Preferred Experience / Skills:
Experience with Syteline (ERP) and/or SAP preferred
Experience in project-based organization is a plus
