E&H Analyst – Hazard Communication and Data Integrity
Afton Chemical Corporation, part of NewMarket Corporation, is a leading global supplier of lubricant additives.
Job Summary Perform product stewardship activities related to hazard communication, including classification/labelling, safety data sheet (SDS) creation, notifications/registrations to regulatory authorities, and ensuring data integrity for raw materials, intermediates, and final products.
Responsibilities
Author up‑to‑date and accurate Safety Data Sheets & Labels across specified NewMarket companies, business units and regions.
Derive hazard classifications for substances and mixtures using GHS, OSHA HazCom, CLP & WHMIS methodologies.
Carry out trade secrecy registrations to protect proprietary product information.
Complete and maintain notifications and registrations to regional national regulatory authorities (e.g., poison center notifications and Canadian HMIRA registrations).
Maintain data integrity within the SDS authoring database to ensure work products reflect the most current health, safety, environmental and regulatory information available.
Work as part of the global hazard communication team to monitor changes in global HazCom regulations to ensure global and regional compliance.
Assist product stewards in responding to internal and external customer inquiries related to product classification and labelling.
Support company policies and procedures, Responsible Care© initiatives and the Product Safety Code.
Assist E&H colleagues and support activities as necessary in all E&H areas including Product Stewardship, Toxicology, Regulatory Affairs and Environmental.
Education & Experience – Minimum
Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Engineering, Environmental Science or related field.
Equivalent combination of education and experience.
Education & Experience – Preferred
3+ years of relevant experience in an E&H environment, demonstrating understanding of Product Stewardship and E&H functions.
Skills & Abilities
Good knowledge & understanding of at least 2 international HazCom regulations.
Basic chemistry, function and applications of additives & formulations of assigned product lines.
Team‑player ability.
Accurate work under moderate supervision to achieve deadlines.
Clear, concise, effective oral and written communication skills.
Analytical thinking with focus on details.
Knowledge of chemical regulations relevant to the role.
Ability to multi‑task and provide effective customer service skills.
