leadership development and training programs will provide you with the tools you need to either kickstart your career or bring it to new heights.**Position Summary**Natural Gas Trader III is a senior trading role responsible for executing physical and financial natural gas trading strategies within unregulated wholesale markets. This position focuses on active trading, market optimization, and risk management, while also contributing to business development efforts through relationship building, deal origination, and commercial strategy. The role requires disciplined execution within company risk management policies, strong market judgment, and the ability to identify profitable trading and growth opportunities in dynamic market conditions.
This role requires the ability to report to the Folsom, NJ office every other month for 4 consecutive days.**Essential Functions:*** Execute physical and financial natural gas trades to optimize portfolio performance and maximize trading earnings in alignment with approved risk limits and policies.* Actively manage real‑time market exposure, including daily gas, term supply, transportation capacity, and related financial instruments.* Analyze market conditions, price volatility, basis relationships, and regional supply‑demand dynamics to identify and capture trading opportunities.* Structure and evaluate transactions considering pricing, basis, transportation, fuel, counterparty risk, and contractual terms to ensure favorable and compliant deal outcomes.* Support business development initiatives by cultivating and maintaining relationships with producers, marketers, utilities, asset owners, and other market participants.* Identify and originate new trading, optimization, and wholesale service opportunities that align with the company’s commercial objectives.* Communicate real‑time market intelligence, pricing insights, and portfolio impacts to internal trading, commercial, and risk management teams.* Contribute market insight and trade‑level detail to budgeting, forecasting, and strategic planning processes.* Ensure accurate trade entry, documentation, and coordination with scheduling, risk, and back‑office functions.* Maintain the confidentiality of trading strategies, positions, and proprietary corporate information.* Demonstrate strong professionalism, accountability, and adaptability in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven trading environment.**Required Skills:*** Demonstrated experience trading daily and term physical gas, basis swaps, index instruments, and NYMEX derivatives.* Strong understanding of interstate pipeline transportation, capacity optimization, fuel economics, and regional basis dynamics.* Demonstrated experience managing and hedging market risk through both physical and financial instruments.* Established industry relationships and market contacts, supporting trading and business development efforts.* Demonstrated skill in identifying, structuring, and executing profitable trading and business opportunities.* Advanced proficiency in **Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint** for market analysis, valuation, and communication.* Strong analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills.* Ability to perform effectively under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing market conditions.**Qualifications****Required Background:*** Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of **12 years of relevant industry experience**.* At least **5 years of direct trading experience** in physical and financial natural gas markets.* Master's degree with 8 years of experience* At least 5 years of trading and risk management experience in natural gas market.* Equivalent experience may be considered in lieu of degree**Explore the Possibilities**South Jersey Industries employs a diverse range of talent – from construction contractors to environmental specialists.
