The Role As a Sheet Metal Worker, you will first be qualified through the shipyard’s state‑of‑the‑art welding school. The Sheet Metal Department is a versatile team of craftsmen responsible for fabricating, assembling and installing a wide variety of components on aircraft carriers, submarines and other surface ships. You will work on ventilation systems, metal joiner bulkheads, framing, furniture, cabinetry, lockers, ladders, handrails, foundations, weapon spaces and wet spaces, following detailed technical work documents and procedural guidelines.
Tools & Training
Hand tools and power tools including drills, rivet guns, grinders, miter saws, band saws, nibblers, plasma arc cutters, rollers, shears, press brakes and CNC fabricators.
Formal and on‑the‑job training in basic sheet metal/tack welding and job‑specific requirements.
Qualifications - Must Have
Work at extreme heights or in small confined spaces.
Kneel, squat, crawl, bend, stoop, and climb as required.
Lift 40 lbs and pass a respirator fit test.
Work assigned shift as production needs.
Pass a Physical Agility Test.
Present a certificate of completion or diploma in sheet metal or a directly related field from a high‑school vocational program, community college, trade school, technical college, apprenticeship program, post‑secondary institution, or military equivalent.
Nice to Have
High school graduate or equivalent.
