The Waltham‑based division is a small, dynamic, fast‑growing part of Boston Scientific’s Electrophysiology Division with a highly talented team supporting the development of our EP portfolio. The high‑resolution 3D maps of the electrical activity of the human heart provided by our cardiac mapping system are used by physicians to diagnose and treat cardiac arrhythmia.

Purpose Statement The Senior Manager of Concept Development will lead a high‑performing electrophysiology research team in identifying, developing, and validating breakthrough technologies that advance the next generation of mapping and navigation solutions. This role provides strategic direction, fosters technical excellence, and guides exploratory innovation from concept through feasibility in close partnership with clinical, marketing, software, hardware, and systems teams—ultimately shaping transformative therapies that improve outcomes for patients with complex cardiac arrhythmias.

Specific responsibilities include: Lead and develop a multidisciplinary team

of engineers and scientists, fostering a culture of high performance, accountability, diversity, and strong engineering fundamentals.

Drive advanced technology innovation

by identifying, developing, and validating novel concepts that expand the EP portfolio and strengthen R&D capabilities.

Set strategic direction

by partnering with EP Franchise leadership to define priorities, shape the product pipeline, and communicate progress to senior management.

Provide technical leadership

across exploratory research, technology development, and product development, ensuring robust strategies and high‑quality deliverables.

Build and maintain strong physician collaborations

to deeply understand customer needs and integrate clinical insights into concept design and evaluation.

Strengthen cross‑functional partnerships

with pre‑clinical, clinical, software, hardware, and systems teams to identify risks, resolve technical challenges, and achieve program success.

Drive functional excellence and continuous improvement

by promoting best practices, staying current with industry trends, and elevating R&D execution.

Manage organizational resources

, including staffing, budgeting, and project planning, to ensure efficient utilization and alignment with strategic goals.

Oversee intellectual property strategy

and manage external collaborations, contracts, and technology opportunities.

Coach, mentor, and develop talent

, providing routine feedback and supporting career growth through structured performance and development processes.

Deep dive technically where needed while keeping a broad perspective.

Keeps the organization’s vision and values at the forefront of decision making and action.

What we’re looking for in you: Demonstrated success in:

Setting research strategy and scientific direction

Building high ‑ performance teams

Conducting performance reviews, coaching, and career development

Evidence of effectively leading through change and ability to succeed in fast paced environment while managing multiple projects simultaneously.

Working knowledge of preclinical models and lab environment

Demonstrate a keen interest in EP, workflows, clinical features, and user experience.

Ability to define and execute advanced research roadmaps aligned with business strategy.

Experience transitioning concepts from early research → feasibility → product development.

Timeline and milestone management

Risk identification and mitigation

Ability to influence senior leadership and communicate complex science clearly.

Collaboration experience with:

Clinical electrophysiologists

Preclinical research teams

Regulatory and quality teams

Systems, mechanical, electrical, and software engineering groups

Experience in MedTech, ideally in:

Electrophysiology

Robotics

Strong publication or patent history in relevant fields.

Demonstrated ability to:

Identify new technology opportunities

Evaluate external technologies and partnerships

Advanced degree (MS or PhD) with minimum of 5+ years of relevant work experience

Compensation will be commensurate with demonstrable level of experience and training, pertinent education including licensure and certifications, among other relevant business or organizational needs.
