Q interstellar
We are building a next-generation nuclear energy company focused on a single, standardized microreactor core deployed in two variants: terrestrial power and lunar/space power.
Our mission is to deliver portable, long-life, factory-fabricated nuclear systems that are safe, licensable, and scalable. We are seeking a Senior Nuclear Engineer to take technical ownership of reactor physics, neutronics, and core safety analysis for our unified reactor platform.
This role is central to the credibility, licensability, and long-term success of the company. You will work closely with systems, thermal, mechanical, and licensing teams to mature a reactor design intended for real deployment—not paper studies.
Tasks Own reactor physics and neutronics analysis for the core across terrestrial and space variants
Perform steady-state and transient analyses, including reactivity coefficients, kinetics parameters, shutdown margins, and power distributions
Develop, validate, and document modeling methods using Monte Carlo and deterministic tools
Support safety analysis, fault response modeling, and design basis events
Assess conservatism, uncertainties, and assumptions in nuclear calculations
Interface with systems, thermal-hydraulics, materials, and mechanical engineering teams
Contribute to licensing strategy, regulatory documentation, and external technical reviews
Mentor junior engineers as the team grows
Requirements
Degree in Nuclear Engineering or closely related field (MS or PhD preferred)
6+ years of experience in nuclear reactor analysis, design, or safety
Strong experience with neutronics tools such as
MCNP, Serpent, OpenMC, SCALE , or equivalent
Experience documenting analysis methods for internal, regulatory, or external stakeholders
Ability to work across disciplines in a fast-moving technical environment
Benefits
Meaningful equity participation in a foundational nuclear platform
Competitive medical, dental, and vision coverage
Flexible PTO and paid holidays
Direct access to leadership and real technical authority
Opportunity to shape a reactor that will operate on Earth and beyond
If you are motivated by building a reactor that will actually be deployed rather than endlessly redesigned, then we want to speak with you. This is a rare opportunity to help define a unified nuclear platform from first principles through operation.
