Support Specialist Established in 1948, ASCEND Mental Wellness has the mission to encourage and support individuals in discovering their optimal mental health, fostering hope and awareness within the community.

We are seeking a Support Specialist to join our East Side Center Day Program team. In this role you will help facilitate our Work Program, supporting members in developing personal and employment skills. The ideal candidate has job coaching experience and skills in creating and leading member groups on soft skills, employment readiness, and client‑centered areas.

Qualifications & Education

High school diploma or equivalent and at least two years of experience in human services.

Job coaching experience preferred but not required.

Valid NYS driver's license acceptable for agency insurance standards.

Good character and background, with an affinity for working with people with mental illness and/or co‑occurring disorders.

Ability to work independently, strong problem‑solving skills, establish good boundaries, and work as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Job Responsibilities

Create and facilitate member groups covering soft skills, employment skills, and other client‑centered areas.

Maintain primary contact with a designated number of clients in the work program, maintain client records, and complete performance evaluations and assessments.

Provide counseling and job coaching to clients as appropriate, adopting a client‑centered approach.

Offer behavioral intervention, work with clients on self‑control and de‑escalation techniques, and intervene in crisis situations.

Create and maintain work schedules, facilitate team meetings, and maintain timecards for the program.

Check agency mail and post on meter.

Maintain program statistics and inventory as needed.

Facilitate and attend community outings in agency vehicles; coordinate transportation needs of clients.

Participate in staff and support specialist meetings.

Attend in‑service trainings and maintain Relias training compliance.

Perform special tasks requested by the East Side Center Coordinator or Director of Support Services; consult on projects that enhance program functioning.

Maintain a safe environment for all clients and staff.

Maintain effective communication with other staff and supervisors.

Preserve confidentiality and human dignity of all clients.

Ensure quality of work.

Adhere to all applicable laws, regulations, and the Agency’s Corporate Compliance Program.

Represent the Agency positively in the community.

Use Microsoft Office Suite.

Participate in agency training and educational programs as required.

Salary: $18.00 – $19.00 per hour. Location: Glens Falls, NY.
